More than 35 million americans early votes have been counted - well more than the total cast in the 2014 midterms. The NBC news data analytics Lab, using voter file data from TargetSmart, found that 35,526,881 early votes were counted nationwide as of Monday. In states that have early voting, 42 percent of voters are Republican, 41 percent are Democrats, and 17 percent have either independent or have another party affiliation. More than twice as many Texas voters, by percentage, cast ballots during early voting this year, compared to the totals from the 2014 midterm elections, according to the Secretary of State's office. Early voting ended Friday and already 4,884,528 (39.86 percent of voters) have gone to the polls or mailed in a ballot. In 2014, 1,715,731 (19.11 percent) early voted.

Early voting begins Tuesday for Louisianians eligible to vote in the 2016 Presidential Election. Early voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 25 and continues through Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily excluding Sunday, Oct. 30. There were long lines when early voting locations opened. At one location in Ascension Parish, as many as 300 people showed up first thing Tuesday. Half-hour to hour waits were common across the area Tuesday morning.

<p>What helps make the state such a political hot spot is that voting begins there before anywhere else.</p>
<p>Election officials begin mailing ballots Sept. 9 to any registered voter in North Carolina who formally requested one. That's the earliest in the country and 60 days before the Nov. 8 election.</p>
