  • FR Very Slow and Broken

Super slow today; even times out with the message below. Is there not enough bandwidth or computing power? It's practically unusable when it's like this.

FR has been completely down for a few minutes. I checked it with a "Is It Down?" website or two. Now supposedly it's up, but you can't move from one link to another. Or if it manages to get to that other link, it's after you've knit a sweater starting with a ball of yarn. What's up with FR today?

  • Response time seems to be back to normal (for now). Prayers up.

Response time seems to be back to normal (for now). Sorry, don't know why. The system was dragging all day, but started working normally for the past hour or so. Thought maybe John had found and fixed the problem, but he said no. He doesn't know either. We have several servers running at the data center and most of them have been running fine. Could be the network switch or the front-end router/server (but it seems to be working fine). The database server isn't even breathing hard. The webservers are getting bogged down occasionally, but don't know yet if that's...

  • Possible temporary workaround for our recurring response time problem. Also, John has checked in!

    07/14/2017 1:31:10 PM PDT · by Jim Robinson · 57 replies
I'm very sorry (again), but our recurring response time nightmare is back (again). The good news, though, is John has finally checked in. He's been out of town a lot in the last couple weeks dealing with some urgent family issues regarding his other half's adopted child. Praying that works out soon. He also says his phone needs to be replaced and has not had time to get it done. The bad news is, he has not been able to resolve our server issue yet. He suspects it's some kind of intermittent error in our network switch or router and...
  • Possible temporary workaround for pages and sidebars not fully loading problem

    07/12/2017 12:48:47 PM PDT · by Jim Robinson · 113 replies
I'm very sorry about the response time problems we've been having recently and now this page loading problem we're having today. I've called and left messages on John's phone, email, freepmail and facebook several times per day since Saturday. No luck. He seems to be off the grid. Don't know if he took a trip or his phone is broken, lost or turned off and he has no internet service in his new apartment or what, but I've been unable to reach him. Also do not have his new address. Hopefully, he'll check in soon and get it fixed. Don't...
  • Vanity-Am I the only one having an issue with not being able to see a full page of articles?

    07/12/2017 12:21:49 PM PDT · by ozaukeemom · 89 replies
I hate to post this but it seems to be happening on a regular basis. I can go into FR and scroll down what seems to be a half page and it goes no further. My preferences are set to 50/50. If I log out, I can get the full page but, it seems odd. I am logged in, except when I am not. My sister is not in the shower. There are no moose around here. My bieber is fine. and so on Has anyone else been experiencing this issue? Any suggestions? I realize I can just continue on...

I have been trying to post a reply to the above-linked thread, Huma Abedin Files for Divorce all night. Instead, I get a constant "internal error" message. The moderators have given me the following advice: "If no one else is having this problem, I suspect it may be an issue specific to the device you’re using. Try clearing your browser cache (or try another browser all together). If that doesn’t do it, try rebooting the device. There may be an available software update that may resolve your issue. If all else fails, it’s ok to post a vanity thread to...

Is anyone else constantly getting the following errors when trying to load a forum, display a thread, or post a new thread on FR? I'm not getting a single one on any other website. This page can’t be displayed • Make sure the web address http://www.freerepublic.com is correct. • Look for the page with your search engine. • Refresh the page in a few minutes. The website cannot display the page HTTP 500 Most likely causes: • The website is under maintenance. • The website has a programming error. What you can try: Refresh the page. Go back to the...

We've all seen pages being slow to load / partial page loads for the last couple months. This goes beyond that. Two things I'm seeing: 1) Blank pages being "served". You hit a link, and get a blank page. 2) Connection errors - This is happening when posting a comment. When posting, I get a "server connection reset" error. Is it time to swap out the hamsters running the FR servers for some fresh ones?

Ever since the second to last site crash/downtime, freerepublic pages have exhibited very long load times, probably 70% of the time. Some have already mentioned this issue in other threads. I did a couple of simple checks on my browser and it appears that external content, e.g. images or animated GIFs exacerbate the problem, but tonight, I am seeing the issue on the main index page, which doesn't load any external content at all. I am seeing load times on the main page exceed 60 seconds. On pages that have images, load times are 80-120 seconds plus. Anyone else seeing...
  • DNS error back again [update: We're good to go again]

Sorry, folks. Looks like the DNS error problem is back. Thought we had the out-dated record business all straightened out with the registry people, but I see they put us on hold again this morning. Hope John gets it all straightened out for good this time... and soon.
