DALLAS -- San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich's pregame media availability Sunday opened with the NBA's all-time wins leader declining to discuss whether he would consider retirement this offseason and ended with an unprompted, passionate speech lobbying for gun control legislation in America and criticizing "cowardly legislators who are selfish." Popovich, 74, has expressed strong opinions on gun control and other political issues frequently in recent years. He made a point to bring up the subject as his media session before the Dallas Mavericks game seemed to be wrapping up, asking whether anyone in the room was carrying a firearm....

FOR DECADES,A major piece of counter-culture history was wedged behind a bed in Merl Saunders’ San Francisco house. The crude pipe looks like something a teen may have cobbled together at summer camp, but according to art historian Steve Cabella, it’s basically a religious object. A so-called “spirit pipe,” this particular pot implement was made by LSD pioneer Augustus Owsley Stanley for Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia, & it’s been MIA for decades. “I’ve bought party pipes from rock people before,” Cabella — owner of California antiquities shop The Modern i — tells Rolling Stone. “They’re just funny little things;...

The bus -- which was carrying 31 passengers, the driver and a crew member -- hit the pole and then rolled over on a toll road connecting the town of Mojokerto to the country's second city, Surabaya. The victims were from Benowo, a village near Surabaya, and were returning home after a long weekend at popular holiday destination Dieng Plateau, about 400 kilometers away in Central...

She's known worldwide for her climate-change activism, but now Sweden's Greta Thunberg is targeting the way your food is produced. "Our relationship with nature is broken. But relationships can change," Thunberg said in a video she posted Saturday to mark the International Day of Biological Diversity. "Millions have died from COVID-19, Zika, Ebola, West Nile Fever, SARS, MERS. Up to 75% of all new diseases come from other animals. Because of the way we farm and treat nature, cutting down forests and destroying habitats, we are creating the perfect conditions for diseases to spill over from one animal to another...

The gay penguins strike again. A pair of two male African penguins at a Dutch zoo, who made international headlines last year when they stole an egg from a heterosexual couple, have now stolen the nest of a lesbian duo, DierenPark Amsersfoort said in a Facebook post. Zookeeper Sander Drost told Dutch News that the gay couple is taking turns sitting on the eggs to keep them warm. But, Drost said, the eggs are likely unfertilized and will not hatch because they were laid by a lesbian penguin couple.

The Patagonia clothing company has added the words “Vote the A**holes Out” to the back of the tags on its newest line of shorts. Customers have been discovering messages on the back of Patagonia tags, which read in sans-serif stitching, “Vote the A**holes Out,” according to a report by GQ. Moreover, the clothing brand has confirmed it, as Patagonia’s Director of Copy Brad Wieners responded to a Twitter user last week, stating that the tags are, in fact, real. “Patagonia tags have a new message,” wrote one Twitter user, sharing a zoomed-in photo of the back of a tag, which...

NOTE: today I had the pleasure of spending about three hours with Jay Leno looking over his incredible car collection. Actually, it was beyond incredible. Yes, really. I'll have a few photos when my brother sends them to me. This was arranged because my brother is editor and published of GREEN CAR JOURNAL, the premiere alternative fuel vehicle magazine. He is often quoted in the media for his expertise. His magazine will again be naming the GREEN CAR OF THE YEAR at the L.A. Auto Show next week. Listening to Jay talk about cars was an amazing automotive history lesson....

Due to copyright restrictions, the original of this article about DLP HDTVs cannot be posted or excerpted. Here's the link to the full article: http://tv.about.com/od/projectiontv/a/dlpintroduction.htm It's a great article about most of the details of Digital Light Processing (DLP) HDTVs and answers the question of whether they have burn-in. According to the article, they don't. It's a real problem with CRT HDTVs. The article also has so many useful links that you almost get a college education on DLP HDTV. Enjoy.

The others stare at the moniter in astonishment. That was HOLLY's voice! The image on the screen changes -- QUEEG's face fades out, to be replaced by HOLLY. He is smiling smugly. HOLLY: We are talking Jape of the Decade. We are talking April, May, June, July, and August Fool. Yes, that's right -- I am Queeg. RIMMER: WHAT?!? HOLLY: Queeg never existed. It was me all along. RIMMER: WHAT?!? HOLLY: Wheeze of the...

Hello everyone, I've been away from the forums for a while, but for good reason; I've been training down in Dulles at Independence Air, and I'm proud to say that after five weeks of intense training, I am now one of FlyI's twelve newest flight attendants! It's something I've thought of doing for a while now, and I'm so grateful that the opportunity came up for me. You may love us; you may hate us, but wish me luck, because I'm about to embark on a journey that I won't soon forget. Thanks for reading, NASBWI

SPECIAL BULLETIN !! Tired of constantly being broke and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his wife, with himself as the beneficiary, and arranging to have her killed. A "friend of a friend" put him in touch with a nefarious underworld figure who went by the name of "Artie." Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was $5,000. The husband said he was willing to pay that amount, but wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could...

For good and ill, the Iraqi prisoner abuse mess will remain an issue. On the one hand, right thinking Americans will abhor the stupidity of the actions while on the other hand, political glee will take control and fashion this minor event into some modern day My Lai massacre. http://www.catsprn.com/letter_of_apology.htm

I used it twice today...why do I feel like a "snitch"? Most times I use it, like today, its for language. Am I wasting the Mods time or what? I never expect a response from the Mod or expect what I report on to be acted upon...I use it simply as a, "Hey I saw this and maybe you should know about it" kinda tool.

I have a older Sony STR-SE501 receiver. It is an older unit to say the least. I have my dish network DVR system and a Sony DVD/VHS hooked up to it via optical cables for audio. When I order movies from dish network that transmit the 5.1 audio, the receiver indicates that it is receiving in the 5.1 mode. It also allows me to choose the cinema audio and shows all 5 speakers on the display. When I watch movies on the DVD player, the receiver doesn't show that it is decoding the 5.1 audio and only the front/center speakers...
