  • Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell was challenged to a shoot-off by a civilian- and lost

U.S. Navy SEAL and author of Lone Survivor was challenged to a shoot off by a civilian during SHOT SHOW in Las Vegas while promoting Team Never Quit ammo and products. Judging from the video title we were expecting an embarrassment but to our surprise, the civilian won. They both had a practice shot with an Axelson Tactical 5.56 SPR Combat Series rifle before the qualifying shot and Luttrell’s shot was the furthest from the target. Luttrell took his defeat like a champ and they guy walked away with a fond memory. Now let’s try that under enemy fire, guy.

Rick Perry’s June event in Addison, Texas, where he is expected to announce his candidacy for president, will feature a number of retired and current Navy SEALs, according to a invite to the event. Retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, whose autobiography inspired the 2014 film Lone Survivor, will attend with his wife. The widow of retired Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, whose autobiography inspired the oscar-nominated American Sniper, will also be there. The event will also feature retired U.S. Navy SEAL JJ Jones, retired U.S. Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor Recipient Mike Thornton, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Pete Scobell, and...

Movie critics have called “Lone Survivor” the best war-time movie since “Saving Private Ryan.” The film — based on the true story of Navy SEALs on a mission in Afghanistan — caused CNN’s Jake Tapper to question the operation that took the lives of 19 men. The Navy SEALs were tasked to capture or kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah when an unexpected event forced them into a deadly situation.During a tense interview with former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell and Mark Wahlberg, who plays Luttrell in the movie, Tapper questioned if the lives of the 19 men were lost “senselessly.” Luttrell...

To Marcus, you came down that mountain alone, but if only we could, I bet there are millions of Americans that would fill that mountain and surround You and Your Brothers with an abundant amount of love, deep gratitude and respect for what you tried to do there, for all of us. Thank you for the hope you instill in my heart that as long as there are brave men such as you and your brothers, there is hope for all mankind. To say Thank You just doesn’t seem adequate enough. I wish for you peace and the very best...

TAPPER: One of the emotions I felt while watching the film is, first of all, just the hopelessness of the situation, how horrific it was and also just all that loss of life of these brave American men. And I was torn about the message of the film in the same way that I think I am about the war in Afghanistan itself. I don't want any more senseless American death LUTTRELL: Well, I don't know what part of the film you were watching, but hopelessness really ever came into it. Where did you see that? We never felt like...

Editor's note: This review is cross-posted at JohnHanlonReviews.com Director Peter Berg knows how to celebrate the fraternal affection that men oftentimes share with one another. On the show "Friday Night Lights"—which he executive produced, wrote for and sometimes directed— the male friendships on display were formed on the football field. In Berg’s latest production—the film "Lone Survivor"— those relationships are borne and grown in the military quarters and on the battlefield. Based on the nonfiction book by Marcus Luttrell, this new drama focuses on a team of Navy SEALs—a band of brothers, if you will—who are sent into Afghanistan to...

Why would CNN’s Jake Tapper bring a U.S. soldier on his show and blatantly insult him and the 11 SEALS and 8 soldiers who died alongside him in combat in Afghanistan? Answer: He wouldn’t. He didn’t. But thanks to conservative radio personality and world renowned dingbat Glenn Beck and The Blaze‘s Oliver Darcy, Tapper was still up at 2 a.m. this morning arguing for journalism to happen. In other words, he wanted his words interpreted fairly. He wanted what he voiced Friday to be spelled out without the glaze of crazy. On his program Friday, Tapper interviewed former Navy SEAL...

What an awful display of liberal media bias. Jake Tapper lectured former Navy SEAL and war hero Marcus Lutrell about “senseless war” yesterday. Tapper was talking about the war in Afghanistan, a war that was started only after Al-Qaeda blew up the World Trade Center Towers in New York City kiling 3,000 Americans. Marcus Latrell let him have it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLJWu2h1T_kTranscript via Young Conservatives: CNN’s Jake Tapper: “One of the emotions that I felt, while watching the film is first of all the hopelessness of the situation — how horrific it was and also just all that loss of life of...

Nearly a decade after Mohammad Gulab and his fellow villagers rescued and protected wounded Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, they remain Taliban targets—but they’ve never regretted their kindness. Nearly eight-and-a-half years after Mohammad Gulab and his fellow villagers harbored and saved the life of a gravely wounded U.S. Navy SEAL, they say they are still proud of their courageous action and would do it again in spite of the disappointments and troubles that have followed. In the face of point-blank Taliban threats to overrun the small village of Sabray in remote Kunar Province, along the porous and mountainous frontier with Pakistan,...

One of the problems with bringing a true story to the big screen is that the people who lived through the actual events are often not around to consult with the filmmakers to get the details right. That's why it was so important for Marcus Luttrell to be involved with the making of the upcoming war drama "Lone Survivor." He was the only man left to tell the story. The film recreates Operation Red Wings, a four-man SEAL operation in Afghanistan in June 2005. Mark Wahlberg plays Luttrell, who was on a reconnaissance mission with his team when they were...

Former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell still feels upset about the shooting death of his service dog DASY almost three years after the fact. (snip) Luttrell said he heard a single gunshot, grabbed his pistol and ran next door to his mother’s residence to check on her. He then made his way down to the roadway, crawled underneath a fence and saw DASY had been shot. (snip) “I wanted to take a shot at the driver, but I figured if I missed and shot out the back window, I would not be able to catch them,” Luttrell said. (snip) “(Alfonso Hernandez)...

Dasy wasn't just any household pet -- she was given to Luttrell following his return to the United States in 2006 from Afghanistan. Luttrell was the sole SEAL team member to survive an intense June 2005 firefight with the Taliban in Afghanistan. Dasy, named after each of Luttrell's fallen peers, Daniel "Danny" Dietz, Matthew "Axe" Axelson and Michael "Yankee" Murphy, reportedly helped the SEAL overcome his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

All it took was the gunshot fired outside his Walker County home to trigger training ingrained in former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, the lone survivor of a dramatic battle in Afghanistan in 2005. He did a sweep through the house. Checked on his mother. And bolted out the door, where he found dead his beloved Labrador retriever, Dasy, a dog given to him to help him recover from his own wounds and the loss of his fellow Navy comrades. “I could tell she tried to get away because there was a blood trail,” Luttrell recalled in a phone interview Wednesday....

Retired Petty Officer Marcus Luttrell, winner of the Navy Cross for heroism in Afghanistan, says he doesn't sleep well at night. So when the trained Navy Seal heard a gunshot go off near his ranch in Walker county Texas at 1:30 in the morning, he immediately sprang into action. After first checking in on his mother, Luttrell made his way out to the tree line of his property. There he saw the headlights of a car with a handful of young men loudly joking, standing outside of it. "I could see my dog lying in the ditch," Luttrell said

I recently received an email from Curtis Carnahan, the father of Sgt. Evan Vela, who, having served his country in Iraq is currently, and wrongly, serving a ten year sentence in prison. Mr. Carnahan asked me to look into his son's case because of the distinct parallels between his son's wartime dilemma in Iraq and that of the SEAL team in Afghanistan that was immortalized by former SEAL Marcus Luttrell in the best-selling book Lone Survivor. As Mr. Carnahan noted, I've written about the Luttrell case before in an attempt to call attention to the inverted morality of our Military's...
