Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson faced backlash on Tuesday after asking fans to donate money to help those affected by the Maui wildfires — despite having a combined net worth of more than $2.8 billion. The Hollywood duo collectively kicked in $10 million to kickstart the People’s Fund of Maui, but then jointly asked their fans on Instagram and TikTok to donate the rest. However, many fans complained they were already living “paycheck-to-paycheck,” and that the uber-rich celebrities should dole out more of their own money toward relief efforts. “I would but I’m broke…you two got this though!”...

Ukraine’s outgoing defense minister claims his country is spending approximately $100 million a day on its war against Russia — a sum that exceeds the more than the $95 million President Joe Biden wants to send to Maui after the Hawaii island suffered the most fatal fire in the nation’s history in over a century. “A day of war costs us 100 million dollars,” Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said in an interview with state media. “The army today is the largest consumer of funds. But funds are also needed for the maintenance of the country as a whole: for infrastructure,...

MAUI COUNTY (KITV4) -- Maui Police is asking for those still searching for missing loved ones after the deadly August 8 wildfires to formally file a Missing Person Report. 'Literally being arrested for visiting their own homes' Nearly a month after catastrophic wildfires devastated the Hawaiian paradise of Maui, a disturbing mystery remains as hundreds of people, including an unknown number of children, are still missing, while a journalist on the island says local residents are being "royally screwed" by all governments, with some victims arrested for trying to visit their own homes. At least 115 people were killed in the Aug. 8 blaze that razed the tourist town of Lahaina, making it the deadliest wildfire in the U.S. in more than a century. More than 3,000 individuals have...

  • FBI: at least 385 people STILL missing 27 days after deadly Maui wildfire killed 115 - as more than half of Lahaina's 12,000 residents are forced to live out of hotels and temporary accommodation

There are still 385 people on the official list of those missing after the Maui wildfire 27 days after the blaze tore through the seaside town of Lahaina, killing at least 115 people. The FBI and the Maui Police Department announced Friday that 245 of the people on the list of 388 missing individuals from the previous week were located and removed from the list. But, a nearly equal number of new names were added. The new figure was an unfortunate amendment to what Hawaiian Governor Josh Green said he had expected just one day earlier, which was that the...

I am trying to get a long term daily prayer circle going for Maui and the survivors of this terrible fire they just experienced that will take years to recover from. This idea came to me this morning when I woke up at 8:08. That is a number the Lahaina locals associate with as it is their area code... Anyway we all know the power of prayer and that it is multiplied exponentially as more people are added to the prayer circle. I would like to get people all over the globe all praying for Maui at 8:08... but if...

During a portion of an interview with CBS News aired on Friday’s broadcast of “CBS Evening News,” Hawaii Gov. Josh Green (D) stated that the fires in Hawaii were “A tragic natural disaster,” and that “if other decisions were made, it is possible that we wouldn’t have had such loss.” But he doesn’t want to say officials were asleep at the wheel or if Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen should resign because “we should really get to all of the facts,” and deciding to resign “is a deeply personal discussion for any Mayor and his or her constituents to have.”...

Volunteer reporter Geoff Cygnus who has been reporting exclusively on the aftermath of Maui after deadly fires razed the island, has released a new video that shows a massive black curtain that has been resurrected around Maui’s ground zero. In a new video that was uploaded on both TikTok and Twitter, Cygnus recorded a video of a massive black curtain that stretches all along Lahaina in West Maui. Cygnus shared in the video that he stopped his vehicle near the curtain to film but was immediately approached by members of the National Guard and was told to “keep moving.” The...

The Hawaiian Stand Off: A Teachable Moment.By J. JohnsonWhile watching with earnest about the happenings on Maui since August 8, 2023, a ran across a YouTube video of a man I believe named Eric West, who has been documenting actions there ever since. This video in question was a live stream where he and his son (I believe) ended up in a law enforcement matter that thankfully ended peacefully. During this standoff, Eric tried to assert his rights to film on a public road at or near Lahaina against the wishes of law enforcement. This was a teachable moment, and...

  • Biden to Send Maui Less than One-Tenth of One Percent of What He Wants to Send Ukraine

President Joe Biden is asking Congress to approve $24 billion more in aid for Ukraine, which would bring the total amount of U.S. taxpayer-funded aid to Ukraine since February 2022 to $135 billion. In contrast, Biden announced Wednesday that he would send $95 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to aid in rebuilding Maui after the nation’s deadliest fire in over a century, which has claimed more than 115 lives, with hundreds still unaccounted for.The $95 million is less than one-tenth of one percent of the $135 billion that Biden is seeking to spend on aid to Ukraine in a war...

........What looks like incompetence by government officials really reflects an ongoing racial conflict. Leftist activists, most of them white or black, have organized some activist Polynesian residents (often wrongly referred to as native Hawaiians) along the American Indian or Australian aboriginal model into their own system with extensive leverage over the bureaucracy. Ongoing conflicts over water rights between plantations and so-called ‘native cultivation” led to a denial of water to fight the fires. The widely reported denial of water by M. Kaleo Manuel, the deputy director of the Hawaii Commission on Water Resource Management, to fight the fires led to...

As I was driving home tonight, I had the radio on listening to the Catholic station here in Phoenix (1310am). The news came on and they reported that there are at least 400 dead in Maui and more likely upwards of 800-900 and that 40% of the dead are children. The given reason for the news blackout is that they are still trying to ID the bodies.

(WHTM) — It was the most costly natural disaster in American history, and it hit Pennsylvania the hardest. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Hurricane Agnes. The story of Agnes begins on June 11, 1972, when ripples in the atmosphere appear in the western Caribbean sea. It ends on July 6, when the last vestiges of the storm are absorbed by another weather system out in the Atlantic, south of Iceland. When Agnes eventually sputtered out, it left behind an estimated death toll of 128, of whom 50 were from Pennsylvania. The storm also caused around 3.1 billion dollars...

The Maui fire’s human toll is already horrific: 115 people have been confirmed dead after a rapidly moving blaze swept across the west side of the Hawaiian island earlier this month, making it the deadliest wildfire in the United States in over a century. “No one has ever seen this that is alive today,” Maui police chief John Pelleiter said at a news conference Wednesday. “Not this size, not this number, not this volume — and we’re not done.” Officials expect that the number of dead will rise as rescue teams, including cadaver dogs, continue to search the destroyed town...
