Ukraine is running so low on ammunition that it will run out of air defence missiles to defend its cities by the end of the month, according to reports. Supplies of missiles defending cities such as Odesa – where 20 people were killed on Friday – are dwindling fast, according to Ukrainian sources quoted by The Washington Post. That means that instead of trying to shoot down four out of five Russian missiles as it does now, Ukraine will soon have to ration its air defence systems to shooting down just one in five. This will have a “significant effect...

An FBI agent who shot a fellow passenger onboard a Washington, DC, Metro train line in December was arrested on Tuesday for attempted murder, prosecutors announced. Eduardo Valdivia was indicted with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, use of a firearm and reckless endangerment charges, Montgomery County Circuit Court records show. Judge Joan Ryon ordered Valdivia to be released on personal bond, and he must turn over all his firearms and his passport. A plea was not entered. Valdivia's attorney Robert Bonsib told CNN over the phone Tuesday that the charges in the indictment are "very unfortunate and ill founded." Valdivia,...

(Meredith) – A Florida man decided to stand near a busy intersection on Sunday to expose a panhandler who turned down a job offer. Ryan Bray said he saw a homeless man begging for money on the side of the road in Bradenton, about 46 miles south of Tampa. When the panhandler approached his car, Bray offered him $15 an hour to do yard work, the Bradenton Herald reported. “He said, ‘Absolutely not, I’m not doing that,’” Bray told the newspaper. “I didn’t give him any money and rolled up my window and he kicked my tire.”

Police in New York City expressed frustration about not being able to stop naked panhandlers from harassing the public because most of them are illegal aliens. Their status makes it difficult to enforce tickets because of Mayor de Blasio’s sanctuary city policies. The city established “Designated Activity Zones” (DAZ) in 2016 to provide a place for “costumed characters” a place to work for tips. Some of these panhandlers, called desnudas, are nude women wearing painted on costumes. Law enforcement officers frequently decline to ticket panhandling violations because most of them are illegal aliens, the Daily Mail reported. A proposal to...

town into homeless magnet By Joseph J. Kolb Published May 17, 2017 Fox News NOW PLAYING New poll shows shift on marijuana legalization From his sidewalk vantage point in front of an outdoor equipment store in downtown Durango, Colo., Matthew Marinseck has seen a transformation in this mountain resort town. The picturesque town near the New Mexico border, once a vibrant, upscale community dotted with luxury hotels, is being overrun by panhandlers – thanks, in part, to the legalization of marijuana. The town suddenly became a haven for recreational pot users, drawing in transients, panhandlers and a large number of...

A man and woman who were apparently panhandling at the Topsham Fair Mall entrance were charged with assault on Saturday, after they allegedly became physical with a mother and daughter attempting to warn motorists of alleged fraud. Meanwhile, a video posted online of the confrontation has been viewed thousands of times. Topsham police were called to the mall at approximately 4:50 p.m. Saturday after the incident occurred, according to Police Chief Christopher Lewis. After speaking with witnesses and those involved, police issued summonses to Carl Brown, 79, with a last known address of Bath, and Mary Rousselle, 41, of Brunswick...

A new program in San Francisco will pair carefully selected dogs from shelters with panhandlers in an effort to steer the latter away from asking for money on the streets and keep the animals from being euthanized. The temporary guardians (the words "pet" and "owner" are frowned upon in San Francisco) will receive weekly stipends of $50 to $75 and must agree to jettison their cardboard signs in the pilot project believed to be the first of its kind in the country. The program, scheduled to start in August, is called WOOF, short for Wonderful Opportunities for Occupants and Fidos....

Have you ever gone shopping, to a movie, or to get gas and on the corner is a panhandler with their cardboard sign claiming that they are homeless, starving, a Veteran, need money, etc? Do you ever see that many of them look well fed, actually semi-clean and work the same street corner, freeway off ramp, or shopping center exit? Why does the city allow these vagabonds to beg for money on the corners? Does Salt Lake City have no pride? Panhandlers not only work the interstates and shopping centers, but also work over people out on the streets. If...

Santa Fe’s downtown business community says new panhandling controls aren’t working and is calling on city leaders to crack down on aggressive panhandling and vagrancy around the Plaza. In an April 22 letter to the mayor and City Council, the Santa Fe Gallery Association said there are an “overwhelming number of vagrants in the downtown Plaza area,” with “aggressive panhandling, public urination, threatening comments and cases of assault.” The situation “is instilling fear in local residents and tourists,” the gallery owners’ letter said. Elizabeth Pettus, of the Things Finer shop in La Fonda, wrote a similar letter on behalf of...

Why do left coast liberals hate the homeless?Posted by: ST on November 29, 2010 at 7:22 pm Fox News reports on a battle currently underway in the uber-liberal left coast city of San Francisco over the issue of allowing the homeless, panhandlers, etc. to sit and/or lay on the sidewalk during the day. Proponents say the recently-approved ban is necessary, citing safety concerns. Opponents say the ban is ‘heartless’ and takes away from the city’s ‘culture.’ Ahem. **SNIP** Don’t you love this? Liberals vs. liberals in a debate that seems to be about whose “civil rights” are more important –...

Somethings are just too incredible to believe unless you see it for yourself. Well what we have here is Shelby County (TN) Commissioner Steve Mulroy being interviewed by a TV reporter. While the camera is rolling, a panhandler walks up to the commissioner, tells him to keep his mouth shut and to hand over $2.00. After the commissioner refused to give him the money, the panhandler then demanded that the politician have two dollars for him every time he sees him. The whole incident is only funny after the fact because there was no physical violence. As you will...

On the first night he slept indoors in more than 15 years, Jeff Latchaw tossed and turned and fretted. It was much too quiet. The mattress was too soft. Latchaw got in and out of bed, over and over. "Just having these walls around me, it's a huge adjustment," Latchaw said, waving his calloused hand around the living room of his tidy home in Natomas. "There's no open sky above me. No fresh air. No birds greeting me when I wake up. "At times I have thought about going back out and pitching a tent."

To my Conservative Friends: My friends and co-workers kid me all the time because every time we go out on the streets of the big city, it seems I am always the target of the Panhandlers, Beggars, Do-Nothings, Homeless or whatever you want to call the people with the cups in their hands asking for money, food or whatever... If only they read this blog, they would avoid me like the plague!!!! I do love the creativity and ingenious signs they come up with to increase donations to their cause... We have some doozies in NYC, but other cities have...

There is a menace growing rampant right in our midst — the increasing numbers of overstayers and illegal aliens who have taken to the streets and neighborhoods to pursue the art of beggary without fear of being caught and deported. More visible in Jeddah than in any of the major cities of the Kingdom, these illegals have flagrantly taken their art of panhandling to practically every street corner in full view of the people charged with the task of detaining them. Another army of such people can be spotted rummaging through trash bins in search of anything of value that...

"You've got to have a sense of humor," says Michael Harmon, who sits in front of Ivar's on the Seattle waterfront and plays "old country classics" on his harmonica. (Karen Ducey / P-I) Every day for months, Josh Folk would awkwardly smile as he passed panhandlers in Pioneer Square. He felt sad to see men and women standing on corners -- some dirty, some holding signs, some vocal, some silent. But he could never bring himself to drop change into a plastic cup or a ragged hat. Folk wondered whether his money would go toward feeding a stomach or feeding...

Sam Grabarski, president of the Minneapolis Downtown Council, pulled his car into the parking lot behind the Shubert Theater on Hennepin Avenue several weeks ago. A man opened his door, grabbed him and demanded money. Grabarski shoved the man away and then followed him out of the parking lot to ensure that the aggressive panhandler accosted no one else. Brazen conduct such as this is still rare in Minneapolis, says Grabarski. Increasingly, however, "livability" crimes, from panhandling to public urination. are undermining the quality of life in the city. "People don't expect to be the victim of a felony --...

I give money to panhandlers. It's not part of my daily routine, but every now and then, a homeless person will be in my line of sight when I'm feeling generous, and I'll hand him or her a couple of bucks. I don't have any expectations about how the recipient will spend the money. Maybe he'll buy food. Maybe he's saving for a bus trip to another city. Maybe he'll use the money to pay for lodging. Or maybe he'll just buy booze. It doesn't matter to me. I give him money because I can see he needs it. Last...

Publicity about a pair of ‘affluent’ Ashland panhandlers has cut handouts for some others who say they’re lucky to get enough for food Jenah Dodge panhandled in downtown Ashland Sunday carrying a cardboard sign that declared she was pregnant. A passerby cried out, "I’ve heard that one before." Dodge, who showed her swollen stomach to prove she was pregnant, just shrugged the comment off, saying, "I never lie when I get money. I believe in karma." While the 20-year-old, who says she gets $20 to $30 a day, hasn’t noticed a drop-off in donations, other panhandlers say the publicity about...

Couple fend off public ire following news article ASHLAND — Sudden notoriety and public condemnation have surprised an Ashland couple who make a living as panhandlers and refer to themselves as "affluent beggars." Jason Pancoast and Elizabeth Johnson, who have three children, think the public has been taken aback by their unconventional image of a well-fed, well-dressed family that lives off the streets. "What has happened is that we’re going along with a lifestyle that you couldn’t imagine we should have," said 34-year-old Pancoast. A story in Sunday’s Mail Tribune about the couple, who sometimes make up to $300 a...
