Just Stop Oil have stormed London's historic Pride parade, after issuing threats to the LGBTQ+ event earlier this week. Seven eco-zealots have been arrested after nine blocked the capital's Pride March today amidst calls for the event to condemn new oil, gas and coal. At around 1:25pm, the group sat down in front of the festival's Coca-Cola float, branding it 'the world's worst plastic polluter, accused of numerous human rights abuses'. Black and pink paint was also sprayed across the road as the protestors slammed Pride for failing 'to address and take responsibility' for its damaging relationships. Parade participants and...

“A significant number of requests by political figures to check on specific addresses of homes to ensure their protection distracted from department leadership to accomplish priority objectives.” The fire started Nov. 8 and destroyed more than 1,600 structures in Westlake Village, Oak Park, and Malibu and killed at least four people, making it the most destructive fire in Los Angeles County’s modern history. Ernst did mention that “…living in the city of L.A. or the county of L.A., we have to understand we probably have some of the wealthiest communities in America, and with that comes a certain amount of...

Hillary Clinton is still riffing off her claim that she and Bill aren't really that rich, and now daughter Chelsea is also insisting she is so selfless that she just can't dredge up enough interest to "care" about money.

As you start to read all this, you'll laugh at how incestuous it all gets. Let's start with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which as I've noted in the past is tied in with the Soros foundation. Together, the two worked on something called The Project on Death in America.(PDIA) http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2341083/posts And speaking of Mr Soros, he himself(his foundations) have given directly to NPR. Compared to some of the other numbers I'm seeing, it's a small amount of $250,000. But it doesn't matter. Soros money is soros money in my book. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2396058/posts Additional information about RWJF can be found here....

A smear machine fueled by huge sums of cash has fixed its sights on a new Public Enemy No. 1. Her name is U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann. Minnesota voters won't be heading to the polls until November 2010, almost a year from now, but this machine is already pouring megabucks into a TV ad campaign attacking Bachmann. In the ad, an actress portraying the congresswoman greets voters with oil oozing from her hands. A frightened baby wails, and constituents glare with disgust at the sticky handprints she leaves on their backs. The message? Bachmann is a shill for Big Oil....

Global warming has led to a new travel boom as holidaymakers embrace what tour operators are calling doomsday tourism - the urge to see some of the world's most endangered sites before they disappear for ever. Newly awakened to the perils facing the planet, American tourists are leading the charge to the melting glaciers of Alaska, Patagonia, the Arctic and Antarctic, the sinking islands of the Pacific and the fading glories of the Great Barrier Reef - and their British counterparts are not far behind. A polar bear is seen on the Monaco Glacier, Spitsbergen, No Ken Shapiro, the editor...

If David and Goliath were alive today, they would likely take time out from their battle to cast a ballot against Proposition 88. So, too, would the feuding Hatfields and McCoys. Such is the diversity and unanimity of opposition to this ill-conceived tax increase. Proposition 88 on the November ballot will raise property taxes. This tax would be imposed by the state and would be in addition to any fees, assessments, bonds and the local property tax regulated by Proposition 13 that homeowners already pay. Considering that 10 million property owners would face higher property taxes if Proposition 88 passes,...

The Rolling Stones paid just 1.6 per cent in tax on earnings of $US152 million ($A200 million) last year, thanks to slick management of their fortunes. Details have leaked out because the Stones' finances are managed by a Dutch company; they are making their wills and Dutch law requires certain information to be made public. Germany's Die Welt newspaper reported on the tax break that Mick Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards and drummer Charlie Watts enjoyed through the use of offshore trusts and companies. According to the newspaper, the trio went to a Dutch finance house in 1972 to have their...

The appearance of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett at the Lied Center last week was a reminder of the fluidity in American society that allows talent and drive — not birthright and connection — to earn power and wealth. Although both men came from comfortable backgrounds, neither was born to that old wealth stratum of American society that sometimes seems to be tantamount to an aristocracy. Dressed casually, they sat on a couple of stools, cracking jokes, speaking plainly, fielding unscripted questions. “They seemed like ordinary people, very normal, very knowledgeable and funny,” observed Yong Zhao, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln...

The left is preparing to up the ante in what they see as their bid to take control of Congress and the White House. They announced their plans in a Washington Post story on August 7, describing how at least 80 wealthy Democratic Party supporters each pledged to put up at least $200,000 a year for five years, with an overall goal of raising $200 million dollars to invest in "a network of think tanks and advocacy groups." This follows the intervention of billionaire George Soros in the 2004 presidential election, using a loophole in the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law...

At least eighty wealthy liberals have each pledged $1 million or more to the newly established Democracy Alliance to fund a network of progressive think tanks and advocacy groups, the Washington Post reports. The goal of the alliance, which was founded last spring, is to foster the development of liberal and left-leaning institutions that can counter the influence of established conservative think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation, the Hoover Institution, the American Enterprise Institute, and the Cato Institute. According to alliance officials, many liberal groups are too focused on promoting an agenda that was enacted when Democrats enjoyed majorities...

The Good Book is old hat in Marin County, where the teachings of Gautama Buddha and a host of New Age spiritualists are beginning to eclipse the Bible as the most prevalent guidebook for a better life.

A recently released survey by San Francisco's Institute of Jewish and Community Research shows that a far higher percentage of people in Marin County than in the rest of the country embrace alternative religions or no religion at all.
