Whitney Houston’s new CD, “I Look to You,” got the star treatment tonight. Music mogul Clive Davis played nine tracks from the album, due Sept. 1, for an A-list audience at Jazz at Lincoln Center. When he was done, Houston walked out and got a standing ovation and cheers. She deserved it, too. The nine songs — there will be 11 altogether — are solid tracks, with several tipped as potential hit singles. ~~~ But it was Whitney’s night. She looked stunning and a little stunned as the audience warmly embraced her and welcomed the new songs. Besides the Alicia...

Whitney Houston begins in earnest to record her comeback album today. Houston, who's been in rehab for about a year in Southern California, is about to make the tentative steps toward reclaiming her once-flourishing career. The first step is venturing into a recording studio with superstar writer-producer Johnta Austin — pronounced "Jon-tay." Austin won a Grammy for co-writing Mariah Carey's hit "We Belong Together." The hope is that he can work his magic again with Houston. I already told you in this space about a month ago that music mogul Clive Davis has already settled on roughly seven songs for...

Her natural beauty combined with her glorious voice once made her one of the most successful singers of her generation. And posing for photographers in a striking floor-length black gown with diamonds dripping from her ears, she once again looks every inch the global superstar. The image is a far cry from many of the recent pictures of Whitney Houston, looking tired and ravaged by drug and alcohol use.

Printer friendly E-mail this story Alex Whitney out for votes as a gayRepublican In the deep-blue DFL election precincts around Minneapolis' Lake of the Isles, a young Republican legislative candidate with strong GOP bloodlines is trying on a new campaign color: lavender. "My name is Alex Whitney and I am a Gay Republican," reads a campaign mailing sent Tuesday by the GOP-endorsed opponent of state House DFL Leader Margaret Anderson Kelliher. "There ... I said it." Whitney, 26, is making his first run for office in a district that hasn't been friendly to Republicans of any orientation for decades.

Whitney and CeCe were hanging out recently (June 30) in Nashville,TN. According to the Tennessean Newspaper the old girlfriends were seen dining at the Cheesecake Factory. Whitney also attended church services at Born Again Church with the singers. The pair sang “Count on Me” on the Waiting to Exhale Soundtrack, a song that promised “a friendship that would never end.” Houston is a “spiritual” person who sang in her church and whose mother Cissy was a past Gospel singer. Perhaps she continues to cling to her roots to fight drug addiction, which has been reported over the last several months...

US President George W Bush's new man in Oslo applied some not-so-subtle pressure on Norway to buy US Joint Strike Fighter jets this week, saying a failure to do so would weaken military operations between the countries. Not true, responded a top Norwegian military official. "No matter what type of fighter jet we decide to buy, it will be NATO-compatible," Espen Barth Eide of the Defense Ministry told newspaper Aftenposten on Tuesday. Barth Eide was responding to remarks made by US Ambassador Benson K Whitney during a speech Monday before The Norwegian Atlantic Committee, an independent organization that aims to...

Singer-turned-crackhead Whitney Houston has allegedly engaged in lesbian sex escapades after getting high on crack-cocaine, according to a published report. Tina Brown, Whitney's sister-in-law who claimed recently that the star is addicted to drugs and living in filth, has made new claims describing how Whitney has had several raunchy lesbian sex affairs. The National Enquirer magazine quotes her as saying, "It's no secret. I've seen her with a woman a couple of times. They were walking around without shirts on when I came in the house." And if that's not interesting enough, Whitney's husband Bobby Brown reportedly knew about the...

THERE are plenty of people rooting for this latest Whitney Biennial, hoping it recalibrates the image of the art world as something other than youth-besotted and money-obsessed. It's a start, just barely. I imagine it will provoke much head scratching by uninitiated visitors. This typically huge exhibition is very much an insider's affair, a hermetic take on what has been making waves. It will seem old hat to aficionados and inscrutable to many others. Maybe it's impossible, or impossible for the Whitney, to do a show today that doesn't seem beholden to fashion and, for art world types, familiar. Francesco...

Blue Moon: a review by John Haber in New York City Oscar Bluemner: A Passion for Color (Oscar Bluemner's Retrospective at the Whitney Museum of Art through Feb. 12, 2006) Have I ever stepped off a museum elevator into such a blaze of color? Have I ever had my idea of an artist so thoroughly and instantly overthrown? I doubt it, but in 1915 Oscar Bluemner had quite a year. He found a great dealer, and he had his first show with Alfred Stieglitz just when war had made New York City the temporary capital of modern art. He found...

The links between Nick Berg and Zacarias Moussaoui, once described as the 20th hijacker of 9/11, opened now room for new speculations, if there are deeper ties between the OKC Bombing'95 and 9/11, than thought before. Apparently Berg knew also Moussaoui's roomates. One of them was Mujahid Menepta, who is connected to both 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the 1995 OKC bombing. But Menepta wasn't arrested in Summer 2001, when Moussaoui got caught. The FBI waited until after Sep11th.Why?Berg, Moussaoui and the OK bombing tieshttp://inn.globalfreepress.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=269 By Ewing20012004/5/24 On May 18th, 2004, according to Newsmax, Nick Berg's family insisted that...

A cross-dressing crook who appeared to resemble pop diva Whitney Houston robbed a Wachovia Bank in Atlanta Friday. Surveillance cameras captured several images of the bandit, who wore a tan trench coat, black boots, and sunglasses. The robber, who witnesses said was a man, entered the bank at 3019 Buford Highway about 11 a.m. through the lobby and approached the teller. He then produced a note that demanded money and specified that he had a weapon and would become violent if his demands were not met. The teller gave the robber a bag of money and he immediately left the...

LOS ANGELES — Grammy-winning pop singer Whitney Houston has entered a drug rehabilitation facility, her publicist said. Houston "thanks everyone for their support and prayers," publicist Nancy Seltzer said in a statement Monday. She declined to offer any further details. Houston, 40, admitted in a December 2002 television that she had abused drugs in the past, but told interviewer Diane Sawyer on ABC's "Primetime" that she had gotten beyond that time through prayer. Houston's husband, R&B singer Bobby Brown, was sentenced to 60 days in jail in late February for violating probation. One of the violations included a December misdemeanor...

What people are talking about today in Scarborough Country? Susan Sarandon. You can say this about Susan Sarandon. She doesn’t back down from a fight. After having her “Bull Durham” retrospective canceled by Major League Baseball and her latest project tanking on TV, Ms. Sarandon is taking her anti-war show on the road, bashing the president and America to foreign newspapers. Sarandon also talked to a British entertainment magazine this week and blasted America as arrogant — while claiming that because of George Bush - the United States is more divided than at any time since the Civil War.
