Sacramento -- Facing the worst budget deficit in the state's history, Gov. Gray Davis said yesterday that he intends to solve the money woes without raising taxes.

Davis, faced with reports California may have a $22 billion state budget shortage, said he is planning a new "worst-case scenario."

Why elect Simon to save the socialists? A better strategy may be to let the socialists implode. This sequence of events is classic, time tested, most effective way ever discovered to stop socialism. Now that they've driven to the cliff, let them continue over the edge.

Gov. Gray Davis said yesterday that he intends to solve the money woes without raising taxes.

"My intent is to present a May revise without raising taxes," Davis said.

Just where is Davis's "promise" to not raise taxes as the headline says he did?

"Not only will that be wrong, but it will send a strong signal to Wall Street that California is an unreliable credit risk."

As long as Davis is governor California will always be an unreliable credit risk. Also, IMHO, I think the "worst-case scenario" is re-electing this guy. I have a pretty good grasp on any fear issues in my life but it's scary what this state is capable of electing. Thanks for the update John.

Sen. Don Perata, D-Oakland, said the size of the budget deficit makes it almost impossible to know how to deal with it.

"I don't see any way around a tax increase," he said at a meeting of the Sacramento Press Club.

Don't believe this lying pig... this scumbag spreads YOUR money around like the end of the world!!! It's how they build their communist, socialist power. That's the bottom line.

The governor said that California is in better shape today than it was three years ago and that he has positioned the state for success.

If we are positioned for success, what would failure look like??????????

Dump Davis!

Davis was quick to spread the blame for California's troubles. There are 47 other states facing budget shortages, he said, and the federal government has watched a multibillion-dollar surplus disappear.

The slumping national economy "is hampering every state and the federal government," he told members of the California Manufacturers and Technology Association.

Basically, there is collectively a $40 billion shortage across the country ... that means that California's shortage is more than all other 49 states combined.

Hmmmmm.

Dump Davis!

That's right. The essence of the Rats' attitude to the state budget deficit basically amounts to one of "Let's charge it all now and worry how to pay it all off later." If Gray Davis is not going to be around for a second term he might as well have fun and leave to Bill Simon the headache of cleaning up the mess.

You are SO RIGHT about that. I think that Davis is going to use so many smoke and mirrors to avoid raising taxes because it's an election year. He'll lie, beg, borrow, steal, put forth a two-year budget, move money, assume revenue increases ... anything. Then next year, he'll hike up taxes if he wins, or if he loses, Simon will be left holding the bag.

I would much rather have Simon in there to fix things than Captain Queeg.

DUMP DAVIS!!!!!!!

Which typifies Davis' entire administration. The whole thing has been a new worst-case scenario.

What a buffoon. As with all politicians that lean left, he's ignorant of the Laffer curve...

But then again, it's axiomatic that, to be a democrat, part of the qualifications to have a "D" after your name... is blatant ignorance of reality...
