Linda Tripp May Lose Home to Foreclosure; Owes More Than $116,000 to Mortgage Company

COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) - Linda Tripp is facing foreclosure on the home where she recorded the telephone calls with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky that triggered the impeachment of President Clinton.

CitiMortgage Inc. filed a foreclosure action in Howard County Circuit Court against Tripp late last month, noting a mortgage balance of $116,098.61, including late charges and interest.

Attorney Joseph Murtha, who defended Tripp in the state's unsuccessful prosecution on wiretap charges, said she hasn't lived in the house for months, and has been out of work since she was fired from the Department of Defense.

Tripp surreptitiously taped recordings of Lewinsky confiding a sexual relationship with Clinton. Tripp lost her job at the Pentagon after she refused to resign like other political appointees on the last day of Clinton's term, her lawyer has said. The Defense Department said her termination letter was routine and that she was not singled out.

"It's been very difficult for Linda to focus on where her career goes from this point in her life," he said.

Tripp, who now lives in Middleburg, Va., had hoped to find another government job, but has not been rehired, Murtha said.

She had rented out the Columbia house for a while after moving, but the house is currently unoccupied. Murtha said Tripp hopes to resolve any issues with the mortgage and possibly sell the house on her own.

Tripp earned nearly $100,000 a year as a public affairs specialist at the Defense Department's Defense Manpower Data Center in Arlington, Va. She had been in a civil service job in the White House under former President Bush before getting a political appointment, pay raise and new job at the Pentagon in 1994.

Linda is a very talented, and resourceful woman, but her days of living on donations needs to end.

I realize the job pool for her is limited because of her exposure, but that could also be an asset for her. This compulsion she has of trying to re-acquire a government job is futile. She needs to explore the private sector, and stop whining....

She sought by illegal means to entrap and ultimately betraying a friend for the purpose of undermining the Presidency of the United States.

This is incorrect. What she did was only "illegal" only because Clinton was able to order his corrupt minions in the Maryland "legal" system to use Maryland "law" to attack Tripp.

Remember that we actually have sitting federal judges who were appointed by a known, unprosecuted, unconvicted perjurer.

A friend of mine is hoping his uncle can get him a job at the Red Cross. The uncle has been there 2 years. He organizes blood drives, etc. He makes 60,000.00/year, has a free car, and a free cellphone...What's wrong with that picture?

I am sorry to hear this but she could have seen this coming awhile back. There are ways to avoid this.. Like sell it when she lost her job.

Sorry, but we should keep things in perspective...

I was going to let it go, but...

Linda Tripp was in more danger than most American troops, and she served her country faithfully under extreme pressure. Do you forget about Hitlary's little uppercrust handmaiden hanging around, "befriending" Linda so she could monitor her and pump her for info? You have no idea what the Arkansas Mafia are capable of.

You don't think the lawless little Democrat scum that constitute the Maryland "legal" system would have had a nice little welcome planned for Tripp, had they been able to get her in their clutches?

And what's with OK'ing the Dem tactic of breaking your conservative opponents financially, if you can't get them any other way? The Pubbies should learn to take care of their own, just like the Democrats do.

Tommy the Commie and his Dem pals are playing for keeps. Politics is war, by other means.

What's worse, working on Wilson Blvd or being fired? It's a toss up. One reason I left NoVa and headed to the little wooden village where the Burgesses used to meet.

Her taping was technically illegal under Maryland law. She also was granted immunity by Ken Starr for her attempts to obstruct justice.

I know you are refering to the cost of government salaries in general, and not to Linda's particulars. But as I have a kid working in DC I might chime in a fact about the cost of living issue to put some perspective to it.

If you live in, for instance, Grand Rapids, Michigan, own a home and want to own a town house or home in DC, there is a vast difference in cost-of-living and real estate that must be acknowledged. If you are a high level executive administrative assistant for the government, with long service and you make $65,789 after years of dedication in Grand Rapids....well go to any salary conversion calculator that adjusts for real estate as well as cost of living and you will find that it would be an even trade to earn $100,000 in the District of Columbia and perhaps worse in the suburbs.

We need to keep that in mind when looking at what these employees make as we always naturally compare it to our own local salaries.

No her taping was not "technically illegal under Maryland Law". One: Maryland law doesn't apply since it was inter-state. Two: That Maryland statue hasn't been used hardly at all and may itself not meet the test of having to apply it. Three: There are plenty of "technical" exemptions that would have applied, had the goobers of Maryland tried to prosecute it.

Tell me, it is illegal in Maryland to use a speaker phone without getting the consent of all parties?

So let me get this straight. In front of God and everyone, you are presenting a qualified defense for a man elevated to the highest office in the land who takes his sexual perversions out in an Oval Office sink, sells Presidential Pardons and leaves office with furniture from the nation's executive mansion? And you expect anyone to take you seriously in your attempt to throw blame on a whistle-blower who has been finacially ruined and had her life disrupted by Clinton compulsive criminality?

Get a sense of proportion. Frame your comments with some honest perspective to the issue.

All good points....

You forgot to mention the danger she faced of contracting an infection during her plastic surgery.

Where do I defend Clinton?? What I am condemning is those who used Tripp and then abandoned her.

Tripp was granted immunity from prosecution by Ken Starr. You do not need immunity if everything you do is legal. Tripp's own attorneys felt that her recording was illegal enough to advise her to stop. It is obvious from the tapes that she conspired and colluded with Monica to prevent Tripp from being deposed in court. Finally, she colluded with the Jones attorneys to obstruct justice "make it look hostile". Tripp did violate the law. The OIC granted her immunity because they needed her cooperation.

I am not condemning Tripp, plenty before me have done that. I am condemning those who benefitted from her exploitation and did little to help her afterwards.

You do not need immunity if everything you do is legal.

When Clinton is President and Janet Reno is his capo, you certainly do need immunity -- from trumped up charges invented each and every news cycle.

And in general, where there is an suspect "appearance", even only in the deluded public's mind, no matter what the facts, getting immunity is an excellent and wise thing to do.

So Linda Tripp acted excellently and wisely.

So, your point is that if the sheriff and the judges are corrupt, and falsely a person of a "crime", that person is "guilty" of a "crime". 'Tis the stuff revolutions are made of, friend.

Tripp committed no crimes. Period.
