If they weren't used, then it's either gross incompetence, or someone didn't want the body found.
If they were used, then, from what I've read about the ability of the dogs, it would be impossible for the dogs not to hit on the scent. So, what does that mean?
Alternatively, it could imply that the body was dumped there after the search. Possible, but unlikely, because the body was dumped with clothes and personal effects. Anyone who would have kept the body hidden for some time would NOT have dumped her Sony Walkman with her weeks after.
And one last thought. During the various descriptions of how the dog found the remains, several commentators on different stations used the phrase..."The dog ALERTED to the remains". THIS is a phrase used by search dog handlers. Normally, you'd expect to hear, the dog picked up a bone. Indeed, where's the man and his dog? Why haven't they had their 15 minutes of fame already. I mean, a guy who hunts for "turtles" with his dog is a little quirky, would no doudbt be a media darling, and the dog would be on the front page of every paper. Who is this guy?
IMHO, FWIW, something doesn't compute.

Is turtle hunting legal? Maybe, if not, he doesn't want any attention.

The dog ALERTED to the remains". Was that the dog owner speaking or the talking head?
If it wasn't a quote from the owner, but instead just commentary from the talking head, I wouldn't give it much thought. The owner may have said something completely different. Remember - the news folks are the ones who go to Taco Bell and ask for a buRRRito (rolling the r's there) because it sounds good.

Would cadaver dogs be brought in on a missings persons case?

Anyone who would have kept the body hidden for some time would NOT have dumped her Sony Walkman with her weeks after. Why not? Planting the walkman and the clothes would make it look like a local thug nabbed her from a jogging trail and draw attention away from more insidious possibilites.

Maybe this guy and his dog where hunting for truffles and NOT turtles and they don't want it to be known. The price of these delicasies run into hundreds of dollars, if not thousands. They grow in shaded areas like what has been described and certain dogs are trained to find them..................or..... I watch too much FoodTV!

Also, it is very unlikely they dumped her afterwards because of the location of the site to parking.
The killer would have had to carry her 100++ pound body a very long way from parking, up rugged rocky trails, across hills, etc., and run the risk of discovery. Dismemberment is out -- they wouldn't have hidden everything in one place.

I don't know if dogs were used, but I remember seeing the "kids" doing the searching and it didn't look like they were trying too hard.
I'm wondering if Chandra didn't go to the Park to meet Condit to get a plane ticket home. I recall some information about "plane tickets" awhile back. So he could have used the excuse that he got her one, so she would meet him there.
BUT, OTOH, John Walsh, the supreme guru of AMW, has pronounced Chandra's murder that of a "serial killer", so he will feature this on an upcoming program. He said that he would meet with the Levy's because they now belong to the "same club of murdered children".
How does anyone think the Levy's will greet the idea of a "serial killer" when Walsh tries to say this?

I'm guessing someone didn't want the body found. I have heard stories of dogs that can scent the area where someone's body lies under fairly deep water. It's very possible (IMO) that someone (whoever *that* may be... ahem...) moved the body around until the pressure was off and then dumped her in Rock Creek Park after the searching in that area was over.

But ya know... Incompetence or conspiracy is entirely possible too.

Does anyone know just how far away from the jogging path her remains were found? I mean if it was really far away, it would be more likely that she went to meet someone vs. being pulled off the path and attacked.
And why bury her? If it was a random crime wouldn't the attacker just do the deed and run? Being very far off the path and then being buried seems more pre meditated.

It might be that the body was dumped there after they searched the area.

If they weren't used, then it's either gross incompetence, or someone didn't want the body found. From what I've read cadaver dogs are expensive to train & keep. They're not as common as narcotic dogs. It's just not the dog but the handler's training & their salaries as well.
So it begs the question: is it finacially feasible for any municipality to pay for cadaver teams from other parts of the country for 1 missing person? Would you be willing to pay more taxes for this service?

Satellite images were used to obtain a search warrant for a man with dead racing dogs on his property. (just saw this on another thread)
I'm wondering if anything like this was done in an effort to find Chandra.

And another thing is bothering me. Why wouldn't the police use infrared from a helicopter? (Is that what's used to search for bodies?) It would have been so easy to search over that park by air. They knew enough to search there on foot, why not with infrared? Or maybe the tree cover was so extensive that it wouldn't have helped, I don't know though. Does anyone know?
