Thanked my congressman

Posted on 11/05/2009 6:14:00 AM PST by chesley

Last night I heard on the radio that my congressman, Artur Davis, had decided to vote against the health-care bill. I had been calling his office, a lot, requesting him to do this.

So when I heard that he had committed, I called his office to thank him, and I assured the lady tha answered the phone that I would remember this in his run for governor of Alabama next year.

This doesn't mean that I will vote for him in the end, but it does mean that I will give him a fair hearing. And I probably will vote for him in the Democratic primary, as I seldom vote in the Republican one. Not many Republican candidates in Alabama to choose between.

Anyway, she sounded very pleased, and if your Democratic congressman commits to voting against it, please thank him. It costs pennies and may pay big dividends.

Good news if Obama’s friends are bailing on him.

“”In 2007 he became the first Congressman outside Illinois to endorse Sen. Barack Obama for president in 2008.[2] At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Davis gave a seconding speech formally placing Obama’s name in nomination.[3]””

Thanks for doing this.

Stick until you get their attention. Like training a cow - and usually about as dumb.

Just out of curiosity, what did he say his reasons are for voting against the bill?

I have news for you. I will absolutely vote for a Democratic candidate if they are more conservative than the Republican. I’m with Sarah on this. I will no longer blindly pick the candidate with the (R) after their name. Conservatism is what will guide my choices from here out. RNC beware. You choose our candidates at your own peril.

He didn’t, but it’s obvious. He’s running for governor of Alabama next year. He knows the majority of Alabama residents are against it.

He’s a politician, he’s a liberal black, but he has brains.

I would consider it, as long as control of Congress isn't an issue. Look at the current congress, with all the fairly conservative Dems (for Dems). Yet the far right has all the leadership positions, and make the rules.

My choice is to go against the liberal republican in the primary, then either rejoice or hold my nose and swing on the elephant's tail as the lesser of two evils. A third party conservative with a chance to win. Definitely vote for him. But that won't happen in the Presidential election. It's R or D or wasted vote.

Pure pandering move by Davis. He can’t win statewide without opposing this. If he wasn’t running for Governor, he wouldn’t.

I’m sure you’re correct; but, at least in this instance, he’s pandering to the right side, and that’s worth something.
