VANITY: I HATE Brusells Sprouts
Frozen Food or Produce Section | Yours Truly

Posted on 04/10/2010 5:57:19 PM PDT by Allegra

They're just all slimy and gross. I like most other veggies, but Brussells sprouts are disgusting.

Where I come from, we call that ‘ham and mother****ers’.

Not that I don’t like it, actually. Unless it comes out of a green can, and is eaten cold while I’m sitting in the rain somewhere.

Anybody else remember wondering about Eunice King and her fabled kitchens?

Okra: Nope, and no, I don’t care how it’s prepared. And no- not your way, either.

Broccoli: Yup. Bring me more. Hot, with some salt and butter, thanks.

Brussels sprouts: Pass, thanks. Never cared for them, although I was compelled to eat hundreds of the things in my childhood.

I do love deep fried okra. Went straight to Dixie House last visit to Dallas to get my fix!

Wear the cheerleader outfit this time.

That'll work.

The Catholic schoolgirl one is at the cleaner's anyway.

I was looking at the olive oil at the store the other day, virgin olive oil, extra virgin olive oil, extra extra virgin olive oil. Some of that stuff was expensive. And I don’t know what the difference is, I thought ,I wonder if they have any slut olive oil that is cheaper?

Don’t cook them until they are slimy and gross.

Sooo....wait until they are slimy and gross, and THEN cook them? :-)

Pan frying does make a difference. Get the frozen baby sprouts and cut them in half. Fry in olive oil with soy sauce and cayenne pepper to taste. Don’t worry that they will taste too Oriental. The taste of the sprouts and soy sauce kind of just blend together.

We’ve had people who swear they hate sprouts come back for seconds and thirds.

I will refrain from asking how you know that preference...

Wise on your part.

I’m one of them. My friends didn’t believe I could tell the difference in the color of M&Ms while blindfolded but I proved it. Have a certificate in my cube.

Extra virgin oil from Costco is the best deal around and seems to work for pretty much everything. I buy it by the gallon.

There used to be a local restaurant that would bring you fried okra and fried green tomatoes, like the Mexican food places bring out chips & salsa. The also served up delicious yeast rolls ~ if you wanted one they would throw it to you.

I love Brussels sprouts...mmmm...and I don't think they're slimy at all. Maybe they're overcooked (liked boiled, gross). Lightly steamed...yummy. Then again, I eat a lot of okra so perhaps sliminess is relative. :)

That’s what I call it too!

My Father picked up a liking for it in the Army and Mom would make Ham and Mother@*#%ers once a week for my entire childhood.

I have been warped ever since do to the trauma of it all.

Some of that stuff was expensive.

Yep, part of the "health food" scam. 5 less calories per serving for twice the cost. Fine if using it for salad flavor a bit at a time, but cooking with it is insanity.
