Like other recent national surveys, the latest CBS/New York Times poll shows Rick Perry leading the Republican field over Mitt Romney by 7 percentage points. But the more pressing news is the so-called "enthusiasm gap," the difference in get-out-to-vote passion between Republicans and Democrats. Looks like Democrats, relatively speaking, want to stay home in 2012 (as they did in the red-wave 2010 elections). They trail Republicans by 18 percentage points (26-44).
The numbers confirm the profound disappointment many Democrats have in President Obama, who has over-promised and under-delivered amid the economy he inherited. But Obama has had trouble getting his former Democratic colleagues in the U.S. Senate to enthusiastically back him (e.g., healthcare, the stimulus, American Jobs Act....[Question: do some in the tradition-bound Senate, where members often act as mini-presidents, resent the fact that the Illinois frosh jumped the line and won the White House?). Meantime, Obama has tacked from stimulus spending to embracing budget cuts to stimulus spending again.
From the poll: "At this early stage of the campaign, 31% of registered voters nationwide say they are more enthusiastic about the 2012 presidential election compared to past elections. This level of enthusiasm is similar to what it was in the fall of 2007.
But there is an 18 point partisan enthusiasm gap that currently favors Republicans: 44% of Republican voters are more enthusiastic about voting in 2012, while just 26% of Democrats are. This is a reversal compared to October, 2007, when twice as many Democrats as Republicans expressed more enthusiasm about voting."

I’m already in ‘broken glass’ mode here! I’ll turn out and vote against 0bama if the republicans nominate Mickey Mouse!
But the Miami Herald suggests the Dems in the Senate are spiteful of The One and his “jumping ahead in line” for the W.H. and so have sabotaged his wonderfulness.
Don’t you just love the total stupidity and complicity of the media?
An argument can be made that the enthusiasm poll is more important than polls showing absolute approval/disapproval numbers. For example, Rasmussen shows Obama with 46% approval, which seems high. But if a lot of polled who say they approve of Obama aren’t motivated to actually vote, than his standing is actually worse than the approval numbers would indicate.
TURN OUT! It’s vital.
We need to wring out every last vote — get as many Dems out of every level of state government as possible and make sure the WORLD sees we’ve beaten back socialism and have refuted ObamaCare, and overwhelm the polls so that NO voter fraud will stand.
That’s why I like to see the “intensity” and “recognition” numbers in a poll.
Those are the ones who will vote (come hell or high water) and donate time and money.
Think about it. Each one of the votes they represent will need to be countered, PLUS the votes from the grateful dead who will worship the Glorious One from the grave by voting for him.
I have always believed that his brain-dead base of worshippers will turn out for the Won’, but a number of them are unemployed...a far cry when most of my unemployed acquaintances had really good jobs under the regime of their hated George W Bush. And now they are jobless.
I have no sympathy for them. They fell for that hopeychangey garbage’. Like dogs getting all excited at shiny things and start panting...
How can anyone vote for Hussein and NOT be an ignoramus? If you’re black and vote for Hussein, you’re essentially voting for higher black unemployment.
If you’re a young college graduate and vote for Hussein, you’re voting for fewer job prospects.
If you’re a small business owner and vote for Hussein, you’re voting for higher taxes on yourself.
Seriously, the only people who might even THINK about voting for Hussein are people who TOTALLY depend upon taxpayers for their sustenance. But even THEY are ignoramuses for voting for their little tin god, because he is destroying the wealth of taxpayers from whom they steal.
Even in Wisconsin, Gov. Scott Walker is showing the union ding-bats that he was right and they (their leadership) were wrong. (but then a lot of those protesters were bussed in for media and Obama talking points)

There are many here at FR who, if their chosen candidate is not selected (or for some if said candidates decide not to run) have made it clear they are going to stay home election day and eat worms in a pique of “that’ll show ‘em” temper.
The lack of enthusiasm on the other side, may discourage a few to not vote, but many will never vote for someone with an “R” beside their name. The self-identity that being a Dem is “cool” and “intelligent” is hard-wired into the brain of Dems. Democrats are more afraid of being part of the uncool crowd than they are aware of the implications of their votes.
That guy is his own mattress.
I guess he got a lot of the food money and none of the money for walking around...the left talks a lot about “fairness”, but he is proof that some lefties get more of some things than others...he definitely doesn’t share his wealth of food and evidently Michelle’s healthy eating message hasn’t gotten to him.
