Just tossing this out to see what others think...
As Cain's meteoric rise in the polls continues, overlooked is the equally surprising strength in Newt's numbers. Left for dead a few months ago, after a series of gaffes and miscues that made him a semi-laughingstock, Newt has reinvented his campaign, and has risen in the polls to about double-digit levels. He won't be the nominee, but can we talk about a Cain/Gingrich ticket? In many ways..it makes sense...a lot of sense.
Perry has the next month or so to regain his footing, and his support. If he can't, then he too is over.
That leaves Cain as the viable remaining candidate around which the conservative GOP base can coalesce. ( Unless of course, Palin decides to make a late entry. Then it's a whole new ballgame.) Right now, he's about a 3-1 choice for the nomination...
So it's not unreasonable to think about a possible GOP ticket. and surprisingly, Newt as Cain's VP seems to work.
Yes, Newt's had some stumbles, and has occasionally strayed off the conservative reservation. But he is brilliant, and articulate.
More importantly , while Cain is a real outsider, Newt is the consummate DC "insider" and his knowledge of how the government ( especially Congress) works will be invaluable to a President Cain. It's somewhat similar to the relationship between Bush and Cheney, and that was a successful pairing. We do know that Cain and Newt do genuinely like each other..the basis for the relatiuonship is already in place.
A President Cain is likely to have both a GOP controlled House and Senate, and a solid relationship with the congressional leadership is crucial to implementing a real conservative agenda.
BTW..the 12th amendment concern of both coming from the same state can easily be handled...Cheney changed his residence, and Newt could easily change his..
Another reason why it's an advantage. The VP's single most important job is to be ready to be president, either permanently, or via a temporary transition via the 25th amendment. We are all aware of Cain's amazing story of fighting cancer, and by all accounts he is indeed cured. Nevertheless, it is vital that his VP be ready to step in, and Newt is surely capable of doing that, providing a seamles transition.
So think of possible VP choices for Cain, and see how they compare against Newt.
And I now have this thread to prove that I first thought of the idea...(g)
Up the medication.
I would support Cain/Gringrich ...
The GOP could certainly do worse.
Both are intelligent, accomplished, and get it.
I actually like this combination.....particularly for the same reason you have noted...that Gingrich has the experience necessary for getting things done within the governmental bureaucracy.
I would happily support such a ticket. Doesn’t mean it’s my favorite, but it would be a good one (i.e. ABR).
Here’s a combination for you to think about Cain and Bolton.
Exactly. Gingrich carries tons of radioactive baggage.
Tossing it back, no thanks.
I like it and it would get my vote. Excellent write up!!!
:-)
I’d vote for Gingerich for Pres before the Herminator.
I would not vote for someone for VPOTUS whom I wouldn’t also vote for POTUS, so, given that, I wouldn’t vote for Gingrich.
I like a lot about Newt, but his willingness to accomodate the other side when they are clearly wrong (a la Pelosi on the couch wrapped in Gorebal warming), and his personal ethics issues would rule him out for me.
Yes - Cain/Bolton is a winner.
Hardly!
Check the time against the time of your post... :)

At this time, I'd vote for him. Maybe Sarah will agree to the VP if she doesn't run for POTUS.
Newt might make a decent VP.
Cain over Newt for POTUS for now...
Rather see Santorum as VP (actually I wouldn’t mind him in the top spot). Gingrich has too much baggage & has taken too many questionable positions.
I hope someone had the good sense to BURN that couch!
I have a terrible sinking feeling it will be Romney/Cain. I hope I am wrong and it is not Romney in the top spot.
