Newt is the current flavor of the month in the GOP race for the presidential nomination, and grabbed a coup in New Hampshire with the endorsement of the Union-Leader.
However, Newt has enough baggage with enough rocks in it to drag him below surface again. His amnesty stance on immigration puts him to the left of Perry on that issue, and we now know he took $1.8 million from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac right when they were dragging the housing industry to the bottom of the sea. Newt’s at the bottom of the pile on that one.
We know one of his think tanks took in $37 million from the health care industry so he could hack and flack for the individual mandate, a concept that represents the grossest violation of limited government powers in our history.
He’s flip-flopped as much if not more than Mitt Romney, who, inspired by the musings of James Carville, I have affectionately nicknamed Governor Windsock. Newt’s been horrible on embryonic stem cell research and horrible on man-caused global warming, an exorbitantly costly scam whose credibility is rapidly disintegrating before our very eyes.
In other words, Newt is a consummate Washington insider, a big government Republican, and appears to be almost as much of a panderer as Romney. He’s hardly a genuine conservative; he’s just glib enough to make some people think he is one.
But the truth will out, and that spells trouble for Newt. This is even before renewed conversations about his multiple divorces and admitted affairs while married to his first two wives. His affair with his current wife took place at about the same time Herman Cain was supposed to be harassing members of the opposite sex. If the media attacked Herman hammer and tongs over things that never happened in that time frame, just imagine the scalping Newt will take once they turn the knives on him.
And turn on him they will, as each candidate who has risen to the surface has been shredded by the Ministers of Propaganda eager to do their part to buttress the dimming re-election prospects of Barack Obama.
All this means that Newt will soon start to sink under the weight of his crony capitalism, his abrupt policy changes, and his troubled personal past.
This will create another vacuum, only this time there is no one new to fill it. When Michele Bachmann zoomed into the stratosphere, and then fell back to earth, Rick Perry was there to replace her. When Perry’s star fell over his debate performances and his “heartless” comment on immigration, Herman Cain’s star rose. When the air went out of Cain’s balloon over the false allegations of harassment and the more substantial problem of his lack of depth on foreign policy, the air went into Newt’s tires.
So the question becomes: where does the air go when it leaks out of Newt’s tires? Politics as well as nature abhors a vacuum, and somebody is going to benefit from Newt’s descent. Like an elevator on its way to the basement, a countervailing weight must rise.
Gov. Perry’s star will rise once again. Joe Arpaio’s endorsement and campaign appearances will help repair some of the damage he has done to himself on immigration. And in point of fact, even Michelle Bachmann has staked out a position very similar to Newt’s on rewarding those who have broken our immigration laws the longest. All of which means there is no perfect candidate in the hunt on the immigration issue.
But Perry does well in one-on-one interviews with major media outlets, is very effective on the stump, relates very well to people in the business of retail politics, and has the money to outlast many of his rivals.
An under-appreciated fact about this election season, compared to 2008, is that Republican party rules mandate that delegates in primaries be awarded proportionately rather than on a winner-take-all basis. This will make it virtually impossible for a candidate to sew up the nomination by Florida, as John McCain did in ‘08.
This GOP primary campaign will be marathon, not a sprint, and the advantage will go to the candidate with enough gas in the tank to go the distance, a candidate who has the resources to keep getting his message out and who wears well in personal campaign appearances. That means the smart money ought to be on Rick Perry.
“Well, if he has to debate Zero one on one, with all the tech support Zero will have, teleprompters, bug in the ear, friendly media softballs, I think he will end up mincemeat, like McCain, and go down to a similar defeat.”
It’s amazing to me how many people think Obama is this great debater. Nothing could be further from the truth. First off, teleprompters aren’t allowed in debates, with the possible exception that Newt said he’s willing to make when he debates Obama.
Second, Obama McCain didn’t lose to Obama because of the debates, he lost because he was a bad candidate that inspired no passion from the base (at least until he put Sarah on the ticket). McCain did fine and in fact for the most part got the better of Obama in their debates.
And even going back to the 2008 primary, Obama did poorly debating Hillary as well. So much so that the media had to go into full damage control after the debate hosted by Stephanapolis and Charlie Gibson when Obama came off like a bumbling fool. They attacked the moderators for unfair questions, etc.
So this notion that somehow Obama is some great debater is entirely false. He is and always has been a one-trick pony. He’s good reading words from a teleprompter, but it’s tough for him to think on his feet. So from the standpoint of debating, I have no worries about any of our candidates. They would all do just fine against Obama.
Uh Oh! The Perrybots are out in force. You can tell the poor syntax and lack of punctuation that they are steamin’ mad.
Dis my man Ricky? Them’s fightin’ words. Don’t mess with Texas and ... yada, yada, yada.

Perry knows boots on the ground and Predator drones are key to securing that border along with strategic fencing.
If a lone Highway Patrol officer can get 18 in a couple weeks imagine what a real national effort could do. I believe that's why Sheriff Joe decided to back Perry.
No. None of this hurts. These points are old and hashed out already. Do a search. Best energy candidate there is by far! Out with Barry in with Perry!

I keep notes and this is how it went;
Cain said he would ‘build an electrified fence on the border, and ‘yes, it could kill people’.
The next day he said ‘it was a joke’.
But still later he reversed again and said, ‘I’m not walking away from that’.

Maybe “heartless” is all a matter of “perception”.
So now people from all over the state have to travel hours to get to the Houston one. He still defunded it and abortion is unfortunately a Constitutionally protected act as of right now. That's called doing what he can to end the practice in Texas.
What has Obama or any of the other Republican Candidates done during the Obama rule? Texas is growing and businesses are still moving here today. These are the facts.
Not true on your border remark as pointed out by me in a previous post. I have a relative I saw this Thanksgiving, tell me as a Highway Patrol officer doing mandatory border security, that he turned 18 illegals over to Border Patrol in two weeks patrolling by himself.
Only Idiots support Perry at this point.
That said I was against the TTC but let's not try to make it sinister. It was wrong headed but when you have an influx of 4 million job seekers moving from Dallas to Austin to San Antonio you have to do something. We still have nightmare traffic on that route. 3 hours of dang near rush hour traffic.

This was more of Herman being Herman. I saw Face the Nation and my take was he was backtracking.
Notice he met with Sheriff Joe and Joe is now backing Perry. He must have not been able to completely convince Joe he was serious or knew what he was talking about.

Has a great energy plan, tax plan and DC overhaul plan and he is faithful to his wife.
We really like him so we come to these Perry threads to support him.

I agree, but he did that on so many things. Say something one day, say he was kidding the next and reiterate it the third day........ Not a good thing for a Politician.
Perry takes it directly to Obama. Man to man. In his face. Who else running for president has had the stones to seek out Obama and get up close and personal?
I was not a Perry fan a few months back. I bashed him more than a few times here. No more. I think he can win. Winning is much more than debate performances. It takes the right people and money. Perry has both and more of each is coming in to his campaign every day.
That border is no more shutdown or safe than the day Rick Perry stepped into that Governors mansion.
Border sheriffs and local law enforcement, ranchers and citizens are at their wits end down near the border.
Zeta violence has bled into our streets...literally.
Human and drug trafficking is rampant on the streets of our state.
Perry lolly-gagged bout giving teachers part of the 18 to 20 billion rainy day fund when he should have thrown more at the border.
To that note, what in the hell is the government doing squirreling up 20 billion of our tax dollars for?
The states budget under Perry has doubled since he took office. Look it up.
I'm not wanting to get sideways with ya, but we apparently see two different Rick Perry's. It really peeved me when Perry time and again lied to Texans in regards to running for president.
Even arrogantly said, what part of NO do you not understand when answering a question about running for POTUS.
I would most certainly vote for him in the general over O-bozo, but I believe we could do better.

I did forget to mention his Texas Aggie uniform ‘suit’, which is very prized in this area.
