Key Democrats Warn Supreme Court on Obamacare (Semmens Satire)
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 31 March 2012 | John Semmens

Posted on 04/02/2012 10:08:49 AM PDT by John Semmens

A handful of senate Democrats warned the Supreme Court not to overturn the Affordable Care Act—more widely known as Obamacare.

“The court commands no armies, it has no money; it depends for its power on its credibility,” Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) said. “The President is Commander-in-Chief of the most powerful army in the world. Congress has control over more spending than any other entity in the world. The Justices need to consider whether they want to lock horns with these other branches of government.”

Senator John Kerry (D-Mass) took issue with contentions that the 2700-page health care law hasn’t been properly vetted. “I admit I didn’t have time to read it before I voted for it,” Kerry said. “But I was assured by Solicitor General Kagan that the bill was Constitutional. I’m sure that now she is on the Supreme Court she will uphold the law’s validity.”

“And let’s not forget that there have been more than 30 lower court decisions upholding the health care law,” Kerry added. “Let’s face it, the President conceived it. Congress passed it. The people want it. And fellow judges have upheld it. Do the members of the Supreme Court really want to swim against this tide?”

The possibility that President Obama might just ignore an unfavorable Court ruling cannot be discarded. “It wouldn’t be the first time something like that has happened,” Press Secretary Jay Carney observed. “President Jackson set the precedent for it back in 1832. President Obama will enforce the laws as he sees fit. The Justices should keep that in mind as they mull over their decision.”

I wonder how the liberals on the supreme court feel about these outrageous comments?

They wouldn’t know anything about that.

You're right. Even though that was their battle cry in 2004 and 2006.

They sure did not react well to Obama’s threats during his SOTU address.

That being said, Barry is out there today sounding mighty cocky on Obamacare. I think Kagan has texted him that he’s won the vote.

re: “Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ is clearly displayed. If you click on it it will take you to John’s blog that you suggested he create. Why are you blaming someone else for your blood pressure, lack of comprehension and reading skills? He has been posting here for many years. I’m surprised he is still able to catch as many as he does.”

Look, I realize that I’m probably in the minority on this. I love satire. It’s one of the things I love about Free Republic that people respond with satirical cartoons and responses to the idicocy of the left and the left wing media.

However, 99% of the articles posted on Free Republic are postings of hard news articles - people on Free Republic often post responses with satire to these hard news articles, but as I mentioned, the vast majority of posted articles themselves are not satire/fake news. Of course this is why so many people are “caught” off guard by Mr. Simmons.

I agree that the semi-news is marked, and, sometimes, I do notice it before clicking on the title, but, when I’m in a hurry, sometimes I don’t. Are you never in a hurry?

Another reason Mr. Simmons “catches” so many is because of Free Republic’s reputation as a hard news political forum. They are not expecting the posting of fake news articles.

As to your insult regarding my “lack of comprehension and reading skills”, I admit that that may be true, but I still felt compelled to give my opinion of Mr. Simmons faking people out all the time - it just seems like a waste of time.

Which reminds me, is the point of these semi-news articles to catch readers unaware and thus, have a joke at their expense because they were in a hurry and didn’t happen to notice the by-line under the title, or, is the point to make fun of the idiots on the left? I guess Mr. Simmons point could be to do both, but I would rather spend my time just making fun of the left.

Speaking of making fun of the left, I certainly appreciate and enjoy that, but what I don’t appreciate is raising the hackles of conservative readers needlessly with a “ha, ha aren’t you’re stupid” when they discover they’ve been “had” again with these fake news stories.

As to Mr. Simmons blog - why does he not keep his fake news articles to his blog rather than posting them on Free Republic? Is this because he doesn’t get very many visitors to his blog?

I realize that people post vanity pieces on FR all the time, but when they do, they at least note that it is in the title. Mr. Simmons doesn’t do that.

This isn’t a big deal and my wife thinks I just need to “lighten’ up”, and, she’s probably right. Mr. Simmons has just as much right to post anything he wants as any other Free Republic member. All the same, it still annoys me. Just saying.

It may be satire, but with the things we’ve seen/heard from the Dems over the past few years this could just as easily be factual.

re: “As to your insult regarding my “lack of comprehension and reading skills”, I admit that that may be true,. . .”

Just proved your remarks about my lack of comprehension since I kept mispelling Mr. Semmens name as “Simmons”. Guess I’m the moron of the day.

Thank you rusty schucklefurd for a level-headed, calm response. Much better than your comment to Mr. Semmens.

However, 99% of the articles posted on Free Republic are postings of hard news articles - people on Free Republic often post responses with satire to these hard news articles, but as I mentioned, the vast majority of posted articles themselves are not satire/fake news.

The subject post was posted in "Bloggers & Personal." FR provided a means for conservative writers to post here. What you will find is conservative writers and bloggers that actually do something for the conservative cause will post while other "conservatives" that do little, other than criticize, mock and attack and do what they can to drive the poster from the site.

The ironey is that a majority of posts here are posted from liberal sites. Material that links back to the liberal site, generating traffic and ad revenue for liberals that pay nothing to FR. All the while... conservatives who pay FR, link their sites and original content to FR are harrassed until they leave or are banned!

Quarterly fundraising used to take three to four weeks. This one will take 15 threads and end about the last week of May or first week of June.

I agree that the semi-news is marked, and, sometimes, I do notice it before clicking on the title, but, when I’m in a hurry, sometimes I don’t. Are you never in a hurry?

Of course! But John caught me twice. If it pisses me off, I immediately go back and check. In all fairness though, I've never blamed John for my failings.

...it just seems like a waste of time.

And yet it provoked you enough to respond!

So, instead of making fun of the left... what did you do?

This isn’t a big deal and my wife thinks I just need to “lighten’ up”, and, she’s probably right. Mr. Simmons has just as much right to post anything he wants as any other Free Republic member. All the same, it still annoys me. Just saying.

You are blessed with an intelligent wife!

It’s parody. But when Semmens does parody, what he writes is often what is in the thought bubbles over democrats’ heads. I have no doubt Kerry and other progressives are having lots of thoughts like this in private. But they haven’t voiced it in public . . . yet.

You know, I forgot what I had for lunch yesterday, so I can see how someone would forget something as inconsequential as serving in a war in another country. It was a long time ago.

John’s posts are pretty easy to sniff out - there’s always one thing in there that is so over the top, it causes you to look up and see - Yep Semi-Satire from AZConservative. Then you chuckle and move on. Each time when I read the first line, I am composing a post in my head and after the second or third tidbit, I know this is one of John’s satires. This is like Rush Limbaugh using the absurd to demonstrate the absurd. And this one is pretty damned believable given the crap coming from the White Hut...

You are right. But... so are those that point out that there is no longer that much daylight between John's satire and the political truth of the day.

What's funny is, after my last post to rusty schucklefurd, I went to Facebook and one of the first posts by Pam Toby Silleman concerned a John Semmens post from 2009.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/veteranshealth.asp

It ellicited such responses as... "Dan Ward would love to shoot him, in his ugly fkn monkey face !"

You know as well as I do that this nimrod is going to receive "the interview."!

re: “What you will find is conservative writers and bloggers that actually do something for the conservative cause will post while other “conservatives” that do little, other than criticize, mock and attack and do what they can to drive the poster from the site.”

I fail to see how posting fake news articles is doing something for the conservative cause, but regardless, if John Semmens wants to do so, he is certainly within his rights to do it, and, it’s my right to express my dislike for that style of writing.

re: “But John caught me twice. If it pisses me off, I immediately go back and check. In all fairness though, I’ve never blamed John for my failings.”

Again, I don’t see the point of posting fake news articles on a forum that is dedicated to discussing hard news articles - that’s why Mr. Semmens “catches” so many people - If my pointing that out makes me “blaming John for my failings” I guess I am guilty.

re: “And yet it provoked you enough to respond!”

Yes, that’s true, but that still doesn’t mean that posting fake news articles for the purpose of fooling people in a hard news political forum isn’t a waste of time.

re: “So, instead of making fun of the left... what did you do?”

I wasn’t making fun of anyone - I didn’t post the article, Mr. Semmens did. I voiced my opinion that I didn’t care for fake news articles.

re: “You are blessed with an intelligent wife!”

I totally agree with you on that one.

I guess as the saying goes, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, I suppose the same holds true for humor.

What I mean by that is that all those who enjoy Mr. Semmens writings should just keep enjoying them, and I’ll just keep on being annoyed by them.

Maybe the problem lies in you being new here and not able to differentiate between Breaking News, Front Page News,
Bloggers & Personal and “hard news articles.”
