GOP leaders prevent a hearing on pro-life legislation

Republican leaders in the Oklahoma Legislature have killed a pro-life bill without even allowing a floor vote on the measure.

The “personhood” bill would acknowledge that life begins at conception and has been passed or is under debate in a dozen states.

The Oklahoma House and Senate are controlled by Republican leaders who run for re-election under a GOP pro-life platform that promotes the sanctity of life.

One GOP lawmaker said the personhood bill was killed because the State Chamber of Commerce instructed the GOP leadership to do so because the chamber didn’t want any negative national publicity.

There's always a quibble or equivocation on the part of Republicans when it comes to pursuing the issues important to Conservatives. The Leftists, on the other hand, pursue their agenda with alacrity, with zeal, and with ruthlessness, never taking their eyes off the prize.

The Republican Party, IMHO, is finished. In a time of potentially catastrophic national crises, economic, social, and military, it is a pompous claque of flaccid dilettantes.

I'm finished with the Republican Party. I've been a registered Republican since 1968 and I've been betrayed by them too many times. I'll not vote for Romney this November, nor will I vote for any candidate who does not unreservedly pursue the Conservative ideals I hold dear.

Thanks for the clarification. The article seemed a little one-sided to me. Based on the replies a lot of readers are eager to jump on anything that puts elected Republicans in a bad light and proclaim that it is proof that they are RINOs. At this point, to many conservatives, being a politician and a registered Republican proves that you are a RINO.

You make a good point. We conservatives are all too often so cynical that we condemn our officials before having all the facts.

Unfortunately, the suspicions are all too often valid about Republican politicians. And my friend (as well as myself!) are willing to entertain that concern about Republican elected officials “being RINO”/.

However, in this case, my friend actually SPOKE with the official on the committee who voted down the legislation for reasons that she/he reported were sufficient to allay that concern. I was most grateful he/she sent me the information, because i was quite concerned as well.
