All my friends are bailing out. Taking SS before it's gone but I actually enjoy working my profession. Am I an idiot for not taking what is mine?
My body and my mind has endured the ravages of time but I just can't give up yet and that's the thing.
I'm still 30 yrs old in my head. Who beat them up so bad?

When I was 52 years old I retired from the private sector, because I could. Excellent paying job with great benefits, work environment was good.

I was told by many that being a type A aggressive person, no way would I stay retired, but I did. We had saved some money, took lump sum retirement and never looked back,

We downsized out lifestyle, everything free and clear and have never incurred any debt. These last 20 years have been some of the best for my wife of 51+ years and I.

It all boils down as to what a person or a couple want. If they choose to work so long as able, more power to them. Me, I chose a different route, even surprised myself and still think it was one of the best moves I ever did.

Excuse me but who’s the loser? You can’t even write with the correct sentence structure. The correct word is “they’re”, not “there”. Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me.

My wife and I both retired from our third careers last year and acquired a “farm” and started drawing our Social Security. We don’t have jobs anymore but we work harder on this 25 acres than we ever have before. Raising a herd of beef cattle, horses, growing a garden, pruning trees, growing and cutting hay for the livestock, repairing tractors, improving the homestead, etc. Long days and hard physical work.

So speak for yourself. We are not losers, as you call us. We just chose to get out of the rat race before your arrogant a** did.

I can assure you, and you already know, the sniveling little brat doesn’t give a hoot about the success you and your wife have had in your retirement. The best way to get even with the little bastards is to stay as healthy in body and mind as possible so we can stay around as long as possible and find ways to make their lives a little harder.

Nothing wrong with you. You get it. Me too. Work is what keeps me going, and the money is only part of it. I pity the people I’ve seen in retirement, sitting in a dark room on a sunny day watching Regis and Kathy Lee. I’ll retire when I find the word in my Bible.

Lets see, every morning I load the truck with a laptop, 243 rifle, binoculars, fishing rod, tackle box and a thermos of coffee. Ran into my neighbor across the alley one morning and he said “Excuse me but I see you leave every morning at daylight and see you load all that stuff into your truck, can I ask you what your do?”. Told him I’m in the oil business and my office is 32 square miles on one of the nicest ranches in the county. He looked me square in the eyes and said “that’s not work sir your retired”.

It’s not generally known, but widows can apply for early SS — at age 60. It’s somewhat discounted, to about 70% of what the amount would regularly be.

IIRC this is also the rule for the disabled. If you’re approaching age 60, it’s time to read the SS handbook! :)

I can do one more year and it will be less of a financial burden. But you are right family is my life. I am in contact via skype annd phone every day. If things start to get dodgy I am outta here job wise . Thanks for the encouragement

My husband started working for a start up after retirement, fantastic choice for him, no downside, it goes belly up he just goes back to retirement.

I guess I lose track, you probably mentioned this before but somehow I had you pegged as a guy - lol! I kind of imagined an ex marine about 6'2".
