Skip to comments.CNN Pundit Declares Rubio's Presidential Ambitions “Finished” (Satire)
Posted on 02/15/2013 4:17:40 PM PST by John Semmens
Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio's pause to take a drink of water during his rebuttal to President Obama's State-of-the-Union speech was declared a possible career ender by CNN's Wolf Blitzer.
Voters may tolerate a lot from their prospective leaders, Blitzer observed. We've learned that diddling interns is okay. A bogus birth certificate may be worth a few snickers, but does not seem to undermine our confidence in a man's leadership capabilities. However, the jarring interruption of a high-profile speech by a moment of thirst would appear to be the type of thing that raises serious questions about fitness to serve.
No President has ever interrupted a speech by pausing to take a drink of water, Blitzer remembered. It's just something that isn't done. You can go back through the film archives and not find a single instance.
As for the substance of Rubio's remarks, Blitzer admitted that I can't honestly recall what he said. I was so thrown by the water drinking incident that I couldn't concentrate on his words. In this regard, I think my reaction was fairly typical. Only those hopelessly enthralled to the GOP's right-wing agenda could've gotten past this major gaffe to spy something of relevance in Senator Rubio's speech.

It’s true. Some things are too egregious for the citizens to bear. Cheating on the First Lady? Why, that is as American and ubiquitous as apple pie. Lying to Congress? Been there, done that. Lying to the American people? Ha! It’s a tradition! Not being able to pronounce words? Heck, I can’t remember the last President to do it right. But DRINKING A SIP OF WATER during a speech is boorish, crude, and above all JUST ISN’T DONE.
If only Rubio had found a head of state to lean over and puke on. At least for that, there is Presidential Precedent.
(Good one, John. We know Wolfie is better qualified that we to choose our next POTUS.)
I’m laughing so hard I really can’t post. :)
Perfectly expressed satire of “WaterBottle-Gate”.
How do we know it was really water? I think we need an investigation.
Whoof Blather is a blithering idiot totally lacking in credibility or "face".
These blowhards have nothing to attack in the message. So they’ll just attack the messenger.
Perfect again, John. Thanks for the ping.
Freeper entropy12 located some photos...of Hillary and Obama....wait for it....drinking water during a speech!! OH MY!
You can watch hundreds of news reports about Rubio's speech and have no idea what he actually said.
The "information media" specializes in broadcasting a round-the-clock jamming signal that prevents any real information from being sent or received.
This is something I picked up on years ago. A Republican president especially, trying to promote some policy, will spend dozens of millions of dollars on some big multi-city speaking tour. The public gets a 30 second film clip with a voice-over telling us "the president was in Cincinatti today to talk about x" and thats it. Millions spent to get a message out and the message is completely squelched. No one who wasn't in the hall will ever know what was said.
Why would any fool think they will ever usurp the Emperor??
It was ended the day he was born. He is not a natural born citizen of the United States. He is my Senator, and I greatly respect and like him, but again he is not eligible to be POTUS.
Well done John. As always, enjoy your words.
:’) Thanks John, and thanks DJMWW for this:
LOL!! It fit so nicely!
