In a speech to supporters at a fund-raiser Friday night in Lexington, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed that the first thing he would do, when he becomes Senate Majority leader, will be to "restore the rights of the minority in the Senate by reinstating the 60 vote threshhold to move nominations to a vote."
"The Framers designed the Senate to be different from the House, and this rules change completely negates that intent. The Senate now does not work as intended, and as a true conservative, it is my solemn obligation to correct this egregious act by the Democrats."
"Therefore, I promise you now that if I am privileged to become Majority Leader after the next election, my first act will be to introduce a bill to change the Senate rules, and restore the 60 vote threshold to move nominations."
"It is essential, if our democracy is to function, that we restore comity to the Senate, and only true bipartisanship will let us do the work the American people send us to Washington to do."
McConnell then read Tweets from Senators McCain, Cornyn, and Graham, endorsing his comments, and promising their support.
OK, if you've read this far, hopefully you realize that this is satire. If you didn't, time to switch to decaf. But I can't really blame you, because it actually does sound plausible... it's just about what we have come to expect from Mitch, who has been a stinking miserable failure as minority leader.
Which is why is it imperative that Matt Bevin wins the primary. So give him a click, sign up to volunteer, and send a few $$$ if you can.
We have an excellent chance to win control of the Senate in 2014, and send them several new strong, principled conservatives. Many us us will be investing our time and treasure to accomplish this crucial goal.
However, I DO NOT WANT a Republican majority with Mitch McConnell as Leader. PERIOD!!!
Share with everyone.
Ditch Mitch.
Ha... minority rights without the tparty but with this douche... figures. wolf in sheeps clothing waiting for the legality of conservatism...
Once again the GOP establishment vows to strive for the mediocrity we have come to expect from them! Out with the old appeasers, it’s time for some leadership that has the courage of their convictions and the integrity to do what their constituents elected them to do.
I’m hoping he gets a whack hatchet job by his constituents. If not there, then a rebellion in the ranks
for someone else not dead.
He's not gonna be the majority leader.
McConnell should never become Majority Leader
Mitch didn’t get the memo that he is supposed to represent the opposition party... not the go-along to get-along party.
That’s a good start, but not enough. What about destroying the Democratic Party? That’s why we elected a Republican majority in 1994, not to play with the other side.
Uh, dickhead? That’s exactly what they want. How is making sure Democrats always control the chamber, whether in majority or minority, going to punish them? That’s exactly how they would write the rules if they could, anyway. What you really should do, is (if you were ever going to be the leader) is use your tenure to ram 10 times more stuff down their throat than they did to you so there’s a DOWNSIDE to their procedural chicanery (refer to dictionary for meaning of “downside”), THEN if you’ve been defeated, change the rules back to a high filibuster just before you leave office. (Which is probably what Criminal Harry plans to do anyway — can’t have a DEMOCRAT minority not controlling everything!)
This buffoon is a total retard. The commie ‘RATS hand him a weapon to take them all out if and when the good guys ever take back the government and he wants to give it back to them. McConnell has to be the dumbest SOB to ever come down the pike.
Effing appeaser do-gooder traitor.
Mitch bends over and grabs his ankles so many times, I’m starting to question his sexual preference.
Great idea. As soon as we regain control, our first order of business is to be fair.
Should be the third thing. The first would be the impeachment trials.
The second thing would be repeal of Obamacare and clawback of all funds provided to GM, Fiskar, and others for foolish alternative energy projects.
The third thing would be a constitutional amendment to make votes in the Senate require a 60% supermajority for any changes in rules, taxes, law, or nominations.
Gosh, that means darned few things will pass. Yep. The federal government should only do things by wide agreement
McConnell pins a “Kick me again” sign onto his back.
Playing nice guy doesn’t make you any more popular, Mitch. It just opens you up to getting run over again.
If they win in 2014, changing the rules back lely makes no difference in this regard. It’s not like they can vote in judges Obama hasn’t nominated.
So basically the democrats can do as they wish knowing that the GOP will hobble themselves if they become the majority.
I’d much rather see some laws that prevent this perpetual rule changing.
