Childhood memories seeing that movie in theatre in 1964 I think.

Sorry, it is just wrong to associate such a wonderful movie with the stain of Zero in any way.

My wife and I still rent it once in a while for the laughs.

I agree. You would think the author would have used a liberal movie to illustrate his point. Like any movie with Robert Redford in it. Why denigrate a beloved movie most of the actors were conservative?

Makes me not wanna open his link.

In guitar legend Jeff Beck’s 1999 album “Who Else?”. the first track is titled “What Mama Said”. There is a repeated sound sample of Dick Shawn (as Sylvester) saying “Y’all hear what Mama said?”. This line is from the scene where the men are all digging up the money under “The Big W”. Beck did this as an homage to this film, as it is one of his favorite movies due in much part to its many crazy car stunts.

There’s a new Criterion Collection Blu-Ray out I can’t wait to buy. Has the original long version and the better-known version together, supposedly restored magnificently.

Cheers,
Jim

Big Beck fan here! Missed his last appearance in Cleveland though. Too expensive.
