New Exotic Particle Could Help Explain What Holds Matter Together
Live Science ^ | October 14, 2014 | Kelly Dickerson

A new exotic particle has been hiding out amidst the gobs of data collected by the world's largest atom smasher, physicists have discovered.

The new particle, called Ds3*, is a meson — a type of unstable particle made of one quark and one antiquark. Quarks are subatomic particles and are the most basic building blocks of matter that make up protons and neutrons. They're held together by the strong interaction, or strong force, that is one of the four fundamental forces in nature. (Electromagnetism, weak interaction and gravity are the other three.) No stable form of matter would exist without the strong interaction holding it together

Maybe we should call it the “Trannyon”, cause you
just don’t know what it’s going to turn out to be.

You also deserve credit for not calling it, like some people do, Duck Tape.

I saw some in the hardware store a few years ago, and it said Duck Tape. I assumed that was just a knockoff 'brand' name (because it was some pretty crappy tape).

I have called it Duct Tape all my life.

HOWEVER, the truth is that there is a specific 'type' called DUCT TAPE and it is designed just for air ducts.

However, the ORIGINAL tape was invented for use by the Military, and it was called DUCK TAPE. What you can buy at the hardware store NOW is (imho) neither DUCT TAPE nor DUCK TAPE. However, that is not the issue.

Bottom line: DUCK TAPE is the original and proper name for that particular type of tape.

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't researched it.

even if you called it the 'Entire Meaning to Life' particle

In that case, it most certainly would need to be called 42...

That’s good stuff, but if you don’t plan for glue expansion (something like foam insulation) gorilla glue will kick your butt.

Two things I have found that aren’t worth a tinker’s damn.

Gorilla Glue and Duck Tape.

You mean those cool Gorilla Glue commercials are (gasp) a lie?

Does this mean that Hopey Dopey Changey is a lie too?

Oh the Humanity. LOL

Well, I am quite enlightened by all of this, even if it were only the result of the serendipitous alignment of the jetsam and flotsam that makes its way through the myriad tributaries that flow through our computers via the internets.

I had always assumed it was called DUCT TAPE, the original, the only, simply because it described exactly what the tape was for. To secure ducts. Any mere mention of having it called DUCK TAPE would have me ridicule anyone who could be as dumb and stupid as that. Well, I have been humbled before but never to this extent and now I feel divine, totally cleansed, free of sin and unholiness. And so I am ready to announce my candidacy for local Community Organizer.

Back in the 1980s when I did video work we called it gaffer tape, because the gaffer on a film set was responsible for securing all the cables.

This is not science. The new scientific method declares a matter settled and ONLY testing that supports the settled science is allowed. Anything that challenges the settled science is heresy and heretics must be destroyed.

Actually, the original name was Duck Tape when it was invented early in the 20th century. Later it became common to use it with heating ducts and it became more common to call it “duct tape”. Both versions survive. I always thought it was duct tape, and that duck was a mistake. Read an article not long ago setting out the history.
