The family of Trayvon Martin is speaking out against a group using the slain, unarmed teens name after they called for dead cops during a rally in New York City on December 13.
While many leaders in the Black community have been begging for peace following the deaths of unarmed teen Michael Brown and unarmed Staten Island father Eric Garner by police, one group of protesters took to the streets of New York to call for dead cops.
The family of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen who was fatally shot by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, is not only against the message but against the use of Martins name in the organizations title.
A group called the Trayvon Martin Organizing Committee is believed to be behind the New York protest during
which marchers chanted, What do we want? Dead cops.
Martins mother, Sybrina Fulton, said that isnt the message she wants anyone giving if they are going to use her sons name.
Our family is in no way affiliated with the Trayvon Martin Organizing Committee, and we adamantly reject its unauthorized use of our sons name recently to carry a message of violence, said Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton in a joint statement to the Daily Beast. As we have stated repeatedly in the past, our family rejects any kind of violence directed toward members of law enforcement and to our community in general. It cannot and will not be tolerated. We must work together to peacefully bring about change to our communities. Violence is never the answer.
It isnt the first time that the family of a slain, unarmed Black teen has spoken out against those encouraging violence after 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley fatally shot two NYPD officers last weekend.
The family of Eric Garner, the very man who Brinsley claimed to be seeking revenge for, also showed support for the officers and their families.
Garners daughter, Emerald Garner, recently visited the memorial for officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.
I just had to come out and let their family know that we stand with them, and Im going to send my prayers and condolences to all the families who are suffering through this tragedy, she said, according to The Daily Beast.
She also spoke to ABC News and said that neither she nor her family are anti-police.
Like I said before, I have family thats in the NYPD that Ive grown up around, family reunions and everything, so my family, you know, were not anti-police, she said.
Meanwhile, many have tried to blame movements like #BlackLivesMatter for encouraging Brinsley to execute the officers.
Many protest organizers simply dont agree.
We dont believe this movement has any connection to what took place in Brooklyn, and we think any suggestion otherwise is a smear, said Eugene Puryear, an organizer for the Answer Coalition.
Puryear also said he rejects the idea that peaceful protests are creating an atmosphere of chaos.
Have they copyrighted his name? I’m guessing that they are not being paid.
Playing the ‘devil’s’ advocate, I think they see the support the police are receiving and the negatives being applied to the ‘so-called’ protesters is harming their chances of profiting from the deaths of their family members. So, now, it is time to condemn the protesters and try to salvage anything monetary out of the situation.
Another case where the word “family” ought to be in scare quotes. Not that the ABS really knows the definition of the word.
These jackasses started this crap. They should be standing proudly front and center. They played a role in creating the environment to have these policemen murdered. They and their greed. IMHO.
(Eugene) Puryear also said he rejects the idea that peaceful protests are creating an atmosphere of chaos.Another one to add to the Ingsoc list: Violence is peaceful.
They still have to protect that St. Trayvon T shirt franchise and also stay relevant. Too many newer, more egregious (in their eyes) cases that could steal their victim thunder.
It’s a corollary of “War is peace”, but scale-wise, they’d have to write it out for the proles and all.
Michael, schmichael. Eric schmeric.....what about Traaaayyyvon and our franchise. That’s what’s really important here.
A little too late there asshats. Why don’t you sue the clowns that are using the tresgone trademark. Idiots.
The protestor's stated objective has been to disrupt people's normal activities - going shopping, getting to work, attending sporting events, etc. What else would you call it?
...with their moistened finger to the wind, they resolutely took this brave stance.
IIRC....M. Brown’s baby mama and baby grandma had a set-to at a tent where Granny be selling T-Shirts....much pissamundo about money baby mama weren’t getting and assault charges aplenty. Grifting, conniving victim [I can’t say here what I want to, but if you know anything about the Yerkes Primate center in Atlanta, you’d know.]
The Martin’s sued the HOA of the place where Travon was killed, and got $1 Million. So now they have their money, they can be peaceful.
Sharpton was there for his vig.
That money was already spent before they got it. I’m guessing that idiot family lawyer got at least half. The franchise still be worth serious money if they can keeps St. Traaaaayvon in Sainthood.
brown’s mama..... still see him as a commodity
