Just having a little fun at Cruz's expense but his talk about New York values is a little stupid.
New York - be it the city or the state or the tri-state area (NJ, CT and sometimes PA) is pretty conservative in a lot of things. For example, there is less out of wedlock births and less crime than many cities in the so called south these days and if you want to judge by divorce rates, NY and NJ rank at last while 'traditional values' states rank the highest.
Texas is one of the leading divorce rates states.

Boom! Exactly what I was going to say. Compare unwed child rearing in general, and I'd bet the south has the north beat in all categories for morality.

The rich and famous can afford divorce. They can still live a wealthy lifestyle, send their kids to excellent schools, and maintain good relationships with their exes. When it devolves to the rural working class and the poor, the exact opposite happens: increased poverty, children falling into drugs and horrendous fights between parents which often ends at the point of a gun or a knife.
Personally, when I pick up a paper, I don’t see that Texas is above bad values, crime or liberals, for all the bragging that goes on at FR from Texans.
Yeah, shacking up doesn’t require a divorce when you move out.
I wonder if the reason for New York ranking very low in number of divorces could be because people choose not to get married in the first place and just live together, instead?
