MAKE AMERICA BEG AGAIN!

Trump’s Delegates Are Now Begging for Money Online If Trump’s delegates can’t make it to the Republican convention in Cleveland this July, he could become just a weird footnote in primary history. So why isn’t he paying to get them there?

Donald Trump may be really, really rich, but it’s not apparent that he’s using his great fortune to get his delegates to the Republican convention in July. Trump is lucky his supporters are loyal. Like, beg for money on the Internet loyal.

At least seven Trump delegates have resorted to crowdfunding to send themselves to the convention, setting up pages on GoFundMe, a popular fundraising platform, asking for sums ranging from $1,000 to to $10,000.

While their tenacity is a testament to the enthusiasm surrounding Trump’s campaign, it also calls into question whether his operation is organized enough to secure his nomination on the convention floor in Cleveland if he fails to earn the 1,237 delegates necessary to win outright before July. Because if his delegates don’t show, they don’t get to vote.

“By the way how are the Cruz delegates getting to the convention?”

Angel wings.

We don’t need a leader that can lay out a vision, we need a lawyer; a bureaucrat; an insider that plays the game.

A "leader" would be smart enough to hire the right people to play the game that needs to be played.

The Trump campaign is paying airfare. I have been a delegate in the past, and a delegate is responsible for his/her own expenses, plus fees. This is not something you are paid to do, it is something you pay to do. It is not uncommon at all for delegates, at least on the GOP side, to seek sponsors. Many the delegates for all of the candidates are looking for sponsors except for those who are extremely well off. Most of us are not. So what?

“I would not want to spend $5,000 of my own money for a trip to Cleveland”

The only time any kind of trip to Cleveland costs $5,000 is when it’s at someone else’s expense. Donald ain’t no dummy! Even if he did pay for the delegate’s trip it still doesn’t guarantee anything. This is a part of the system that has to end with this election or we might as well quit calling ourselves anything but a mess of a nation that’s going down hard and fast. It seems to be a “may the best liar win” kind of scenario. If that continues, there’s not much doubt that Trump won’t be elected.

I’d hate to think that the advancement of my candidate depends on how luxurious the accommodations that he pays for are and how generous the restaurant tab is. But that seems to be the way we’re going. If that isn’t buying votes; then I don’t know what is. I’m glad Trump doesn’t know how to or care to play that game, whether it costs him the election or not.

Trump is providing transportation to and from Cleveland for his delegates. I know this for a fact because I am applying to be a delegate again, and I just got the paperwork from the Trump campaign regarding this.

I have heard, however, if the delegates don’t stay with Trump, they won’t be flying home on Trump’s jet.

I have known several national delegates over the years from several states. Not only are they relatively well off financially, they pick up the tab for local party expenses and pick up some of the expenses for young delegates and guests. They are people who donate money in modest amounts, not receive it. Since most national conventions are just television shows, there aren’t a lot of people lined up to put out $5,000 - $10,000 for a thankless hobby.

re: Cleveland that time of year (July)

Nobody knows what will happen this year if (when) tempers flare. But I will defend my adopted city. It's a real safe, pleasant city with a lot of activities. Like any city, one does have to stay in touristy areas and not be out-of-sight. The "riots" last year were mostly outside rabble-rousers.

“How do delegates typically get to a convention?”

You pay your way, room, and board.

I thought the state party picked up the tab? What good does it do to become a delegate only to find out your stuck with paying your own way?

This is a lie. Trump has already told delegates to contact him for transportation and hotel costs.

I don’t think the party has ever picked up the tab. If you want to be a delegate you pay your own way. I was thinking of being one for Trump and I knew that if I did I paid.

Now one your there you can freeload food and drinks all week, lots of places to do that. But you are responsible for transportation there, hotel, and spending money.

Never heard of a state party picking up the tab, though it may have happened for sure. It’s more common for a wealthy donor to be a patron. Most state parties don’t really have much money.
