Martin won’t finish because the internet caught up to him. His whole drive was to unveil that John Snow was the offspring of the Mad King and Ned Stark’s sister. Before the internet, maybe a few people would have figured it out. Because his books are so popular, whole fan sites formed, communicated, guessed the ending, and took away his drive. He has threatened to kill off everyone in a twenty page book as a giant “screw you” to people who spoiled his ending. I can see his point and he doesn’t look to healthy.

He found the evidence that Shireen was burned at the stake for the red god, the way Shireen’s mother sacrificed her brother and sister in law.
So now Davos knows the witch had Shireen killed, and he will lose all loyalty to her. Before that, he could have thought Shireen was killed along with her mother when Stannis was killed. But then it isn’t the Boltons’ fault but the red woman’s fault.

Does anyone else think the Masters attack on Meereen was one of the dumbest military moves in the history of Game of Thrones? Masters: Yeah we want you to surrender the city and give back the Unsullied and the translator and kill your dragons.

Daenerys: Or I can just ride my dragon and get the other two and whip your ass in about ten seconds.

Masters: Crap, we didn't consider that...

That could create the ruins where snow falls through that Danerys saw in her visions

Or they were trying to plot how to rescue Rickon and hadn’t figured it out yet.

Agreed. That was simply AWESOME. I have never seen a sword and cavalry battle so realistically captured on film. It rivaled Saving Private Ryan for making you feel like you were there. Not a big fan of Khaleesi and her dragons, but she was great. Tyrion was splendid as usual

I wonder if the show is going to try to conclude the plots of the books in case Martin never does, so that there IS an ending even if unofficial.

She got her vengeance for her pain and little brother’s death, by the same method he killed his stepmother and little brother and others he tortured.

Since the other two dragons had been caged and reportedly not eating, they may not have been seen as a threat.
And since Danerys only returned with Drogon who seemed to fly away, they may not have realized she had command and control of 3 aerial weapons.

His mother could call him out to punish him for essentially sending her to the show trial to die or get stripped of everything.

The theory is that Jon is the son of Prince Rhaegar, the son of King Aerys II (the mad king).

Yep, Bran’s visions of wildfire, Tyrion telling the story about the Mad King and wildfire to Daenerys, and Daenerys’ vision in the House of the Undying where the great hall in the Red Keep was in ruins. They all seem to be foreshadowing that Cersei might want to do something with that wildfire...

It’s possible. The timelines of the various characters aren’t all happening at the same time, and we can’t always tell how much time has passed.

“the Lannisters have completely screwed themselves, totally, and next episode I think we will see that bare fruit.”

The North is no longer under Lannister control, the Vale seems to have flipped, the Dornish want to go to war with the Lannisters (and Varys is on the way to recruit them), and Danyrs now has enough ships and Dothraki to sail for Westeros. So things may have never looked worse for the Lannisters. Even Arya is coming for them now.

All they need is a civil war inside the capital with the faith militant to make things worse.

Maybe Loris will die, or maybe the High Sparrow - but somebody will have to die.

The season finale should kill off another character or two, and the preview showed some scenes back at Kings Landing.

Maybe Tommen will die, making Cersei will go all Mad Queen, and Wildfire Nuke the place, right before the screen goes black.

Or maybe she inadvertently kills Tommen, not knowing that he is inside the Sept, when she burns it.

But count on it - bodies will hit the floor.

“who will ride the other two dragons?”

Suspects:

Jon Snow, son of Rhaegar.

Tyrion Lannister, secretly the bastard of the Mad King, while Tywin served as Hand of the King. He always wanted a dragon.

Meera Reed, secretly the twin sister of Jon Snow - only Ned Stark and Howland Reed went into the Tower of Joy, they each took one baby to raise. She has killed a white walker, and kind of looks like Jon.

Brandon Stark, wargs into a dragon. Bloodraven said that he would never walk again - but he would fly.

Lord Varys, secretly a Targyrean - that is why the magician wanted his genitals - there is special power in Kings blood.

Sam, has the magic horn from the fist of the first men (doesn’t know it yet), has a Valerian steel sword, and has killed a white walker.

Who will be Azor Ahai, and turn back the long night?

I’ve never heard if him making a threat. He always takes a long time with these books. Maybe it’s all going to end up in the same place but the show has deviated from much of the book plot.

I don’t think there is any reason to believe Martin lost connection with his characters.
