NEW YORK (AP) - Who doesn't love a parade? To a city that already offers many, President Donald Trump wants to add one that showcases U.S. military might.

It would take place on July 4 in Washington with, as Trump envisions it, tanks and planes rolling down and streaking above Pennsylvania Avenue.

Trump talked up the idea Monday as he sat down with French President Emmanuel Macron, who hosted the president and first lady Melania Trump for France's military parade in the center of Paris on Bastille Day in July. Trump said the two-hour procession was a "tremendous thing for France and for the spirit of France" and suggested he wants the same for Americans.

In typical Trump fashion, the president said he wants the parade to be bigger and better than the one he saw in France.....

Go anyway and just be cautious and careful. Not paranoid but be on your guard. You can still have a wonderful trip. The window is however closing. I remember years ago waffling on going to Israel and the tour organizer said if you’re worried about terrorism you’ll never go. I did go and it was one those trips of a lifetime.

I am against a parade of that type. A parade to honor our military is one thing, but to display the articles of war like we’re in a supermarket I’m against that... That’s what banana republics and communist countries do...

I don't like the idea either.

it should be a bunch of bureaucrats marching by in July. In suits.

Pamplona has the "running of the bulls". Washington DC can have the "running of the bulls#!+".

I don’t know, it sounds a bit too “Soviet Union” or N.Korea to me. Don’t stoop to their level. A Reagan style of “peace through strength” is more to my liking.

I’ve been to Germany. Now that I think about it, never saw a pothole. Not sure our roadways are up to those standards....

What we need to have is a short demonstration, on and near some deserted island in the Pacific, of the raw firepower that the various branches of the US military have...which demonstration ought to persuade random bastards around the world not to mess with us. It’d also show the taxpayers what we are paying for - and I think that we’d appreciate knowing that we get something real for our military dollars (as opposed to our welfare dollars). As to the expense - if it has the desired effect, then we could do such a demonstration every day for a year and it’d be cheaper than fighting a war for a week.

Around here the heavy stuff might do these washboards some good!

Other countries have military parades and don’t get criticized. It is national pageantry.

Why shouldn’t we do it so long as we don’t show too much or reveal our secrets?

They had APC’s at the Bastille day parade, so if we have those, should be OK.
