On a Slow News Thursday the Media Just Made the ‘News’ up
DB Daily Update ^ | David Blackmon

Posted on 12/26/2019 2:51:49 PM PST by EyesOfTX

The two biggest news ‘stories’ on December 26 weren’t ‘news’ at all. – The fake news media went semi-wild with two stories on Thursday, pushing them relentlessly hour after hour on a day that was otherwise devoid of sexy stories to push.

The first was about GOP Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, who all the leftists in the corrupt media establishment are praying will be one of the RINOs in the Senate who will vote to remove President Trump from office in a Senate trail, assuming there ever actually is such a thing. Hey, she was a spineless traitor on the Kavanaugh nomination after she was filmed being bullied in the hallway by Dianne Feinstein – why wouldn’t she commit the ultimate betrayal against a President she has never liked?

It’s a valid question, and it might even happen eventually. The problem is that today’s story being pushed by the corrupt media doesn’t really give us any indication one way or the other.

Here’s what happened: Murkowski was asked by a local Anchorage TV reporter if she approved of the promise made by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that he would conduct a Senate trial “in total coordination” with White House lawyers. Murkowski answered that “When I heard that, I was disturbed.”

Ok, so, the spineless RINO was disturbed. Murkowski then went onto say this:

“We have to take that step back from being hand in glove with the defense,” Murkowski told KTUU. “And so [when] I … heard what Leader McConnell had said, I happened to think that that has further confused the process.”

Ok, so, the spineless RINO is disturbed and thinks McConnell has confused the process when in fact he has crystal clarified it. What else would we expect from a spineless RINO who desperately wants to pretend to be all things to all people instead of standing on something resembling political principle? The truth is that Murkowski’s dissembling here was exactly what anyone who pays any attention to her normal behavior would have expected from her. It would have been a shock had she in fact said anything else.

But it is a long way from a principle-devoid Senator dissembling as a means of getting a pesky reporter off her back to actually casting a vote to remove a duly-elected President from office. Murkowski’s statement here was not ‘news;’ it was just another day at the office for her.

Then there’s the other story that ‘broke’ early in the afternoon about dead former Senator John McCain funneling “5 reports by Christopher Steele” to James Comey in late 2017. This ‘news’ is contained in the report by DOJ IG Michael Horowitz, a report that was made public on December 9, which was two-and-a-half weeks ago.

This is news? Really? McCain’s efforts to distribute reports funneled to him and his staff by Steele have been well known since early 2018. This business about “five separate reports” is nothing but wordplay. All five of those Steele-manufactured “reports” ended up being included in the infamous fake Dossier, and the thought that the FBI was not aware of their existence until they were handed to Comey by McCain is absurd.

But hey, it was that rarest of rare things of the Trump presidency today – a very slow news day – so the people pushing ‘news’ 24 hours a day to attract viewers and website clicks were desperate.

For the rest of us, it’ll be a relief when the holidays are over and we are back to having half a dozen real news cycles every day.

That is all.

Jerk the Murk

I’m an Auburn fan, but that was the battle cry when Bama fans were dissatisfied with Ray Perkins:

The pic of Feinstein trapping murk against the wall during the Kavanaugh hearings was disturbing. Any dignified person would have given difi two seconds to back up three feet.

Weird article. Just because Murakowski and McCain are backstabbers doesn’t mean their comments and actions are somehow not newsworthy.

And it definitely doesn’t mean that accurate reports about what they said/did are “fake news”.

Yes, the media was probably hyping Murakowski’s comments more than they would have if it was a Democrat like Manchin criticizing the Democratic leadership, but that still doesn’t mean it’s “fake”.

She will not vote to remove Trump. Alaskans would never forgive her for that despite her family name.

Tell Lisa to do a little research. Daschle coordinated with the White House during the Clinton impeachment.

Remember the movie “All the President’s Men” when Bernstein (Hoffman) and Woodward (Redford) were trying to find something to put in the paper on a deadline and came up with the Watergate break in and took off with that? Can’t you just see news rooms all over the nation doing the same thing this holiday season - proof of what they did today to find something - ANYTHING that their public will read/listen to...

I have a modest suggestion: English and American tradition is for a “jury of peers” of the defendant. But - as the history of elections for POTUS confirms - senators are legislators, and as such are not peers of executives.

Only one senator (Warren G. Harding) has ever beaten a governor in a presidential election, and no one not a governor has ever defeated a sitting president’s reelection bid.

It would seem to follow that governors should be the “jury” for presidential impeachment trials. Perhaps switching completely to a jury of governors would be a bridge too far, but for sure governors are best suited to judge what is impeachable and what isn’t. Because they put their own performance on the line - impeachment of Bill Clinton would have looked different if his peers - the governors - stood up and either admitted that the charges against Clinton were things that they reserved the right to do themselves - or else to the contrary.

Seems like the governors would have held that the charged behavior was not what their own constituents would tolerate. In the present instance, IMHO the governors wouldn’t feel obliged to reject for themselves the right to appeal a legislature’s demand for personal information to the courts.

This isn't new news.

Ask Freepers for the short list of gopers who will sell out the President and you most likely get the following (no particular order):

Romney

Murkowski

Collins
