From a glance of (apparently) a mere four characters, and given its location (above the door, which was concealed after the pyramid was constructed until the Middle Ages, apparently), I'd say it'll be hard to figure out, other than to perhaps equate these four characters with other ancient (and now abandoned) systems of writing.

First of all, Robert Schoch is a very credible scientists, so if he's asking he's not joking around. He's looked at the erosion patterns in the pit around the Sphinx and determined that the pit (who knows of the Sphinx) was excavated approx. 15,000 years ago!
