ZOT! Why the constant posts on religion?
None but me

Posted on 02/26/2010 11:53:37 PM PST by knowshon

I have always thought this was a great site to get great political info. I come here for political/journalistic references. If you are going to make your queries 'Religious,' why not go to the religious talking board. I have been slammed here on what people believe is my perceived religion. These were for comments which didnt mention religion, and didnt have religious overtones. I

Generally speaking, anybody who claims to have a private line on God should be viewed with profound suspicion. Such a person is either deluded or evil.

"Why the constant posts on religion?"

When I look in the upper right corner (blue box), right there, no bigger, no smaller than "News/Activism" is "Religion".

I believe religion is a larger part of conservatism than news.

Belief systems are the Foundation of the Principles under which we Live.

Freepers are by Nature, Principled
As such, the Foundation of those Principles
is also important to discuss

I For one would be interested in
Taoist and Buddhist viewpoints on political thought.
It would be “interesting”

Atheist Conservatives can be
powerful sources of insight also

Ones “Metaphysic” powerfully colors
how one views the Universe and our part in it

Subsequently, it is a proper discussion point on this Forum

Shouldn’t this be posted over in “Religion”?

I’ve grown used to it. But I will agree with you that some of the discussions are basically arguments about how many angels fit on the head of a pin. :) Not something G-d Himself worries about.

And thus much concerning God, to discourse of whom from the appearances of things does certainly belong to Natural Philosophy.

Your incomplete rant and newbie status aside, I find that the inter-denominational backbiting that goes on here quite often is counter-productive to conservative goals. Protestant vs. Catholic vs. Mormon vs. whatever only serves to divide us at a time when we all need to be as united as possible.

Many of us have religious reasons for our opinions. So, when we give our opinions, we often refer to the religious underpinnings for them.

Then so much for the gnostic, meditation-based religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, etc.

Generally speaking, anyone who claims to judge the validity of anyone else's personal relationship with God is either deluded or evil.

If you don’t prefer to read posts regarding religion, then don’t read them. That’s what I’ve always done since I’ve been here.

No one forces you to click on them....

I find the application of a Conservative Nature
most valuable when used as a lens,
a way of responding to the concerns of these times

The durability of Conservatism has depended,
to a great extent,
on it being a disposition rather than a philosophy.

What marks Conservatives out,
across the generations,
and whatever the environment they operate in,
is an attitude of mind rather than an adherence to dogma. And that disposition
- skeptical, cautious, pragmatic,
sensitive to the local and the particular
- has been politically successful because
it has been in tune with human nature.
