A second time? The dog should have been put down after the first time. There really is no reason to have an animal with the potential for destruction that a pit bull has when there are dozens of breeds of dogs that can provide the same level of companionship without the ability to rip off the face of someone if they have a bad day.

There should be no second chance when a dog attacks a child. You put them down the first time.

It’s hard for me to imagine that a dog can attack a person and not be euthanized after the FIRST attack. I think there would need to be some very extenuating circumstances (dog protecting owner, dog on it’s own property protecting property, dog injured and reacting to being handled). The real problem here is that many places don’t seem to take steps to make sure a second attack never occurs.

I love dogs!
Having said that I agree with others that the rule is “one strike and you’re out”. The dog should have been humanely euthanized the first time.

"I'd rather get hit by a car myself than have that kid go through that," he said.

I think we'd all have preferred you get hit by a car than have your dog attack a kid twice.

Wyatt pushed his brother out of the way and tried to slam the screen door closed...

Having been savagely attacked once before by the very same animal, this boy showed remarkable and heroic courage to FIRST get his little brother out of harms way before looking out for himself, when he saw it charging at him again. I am not at all sure I would have been able to exhibit such bravery when I was ten years old, and I am certainly thankful that I never had to find out.

May God watch over him as he rcovers.

I was bit by a dog when I was six, back then you had to have many shots, they rotated, stomach, arm, rear, for many days including Sat. & Sun. + the tetnus shot. We couldn’t find the stray dog. I have Shelties now but wouldn’t hesitate to shoot a stray or menacing dog that entered my property and posed a threat to my kids, myself or my dogs. There would be NO second attack.

The dog has only attacked this one kid. Has anyone asked why? I’m betting the kid did something to make the dog hate him.

Did they give it Viagra? How do the attacks make you feel? Tell me how you are coping with this recent attack. Is there anything we can do to help you feel better about the situation? It is not your fault Chet, don’t blame yourself. You had no idea that Pitt Bull would ruin your family.

After reading this article if anyone on here thinks pit bulls should be allowed in neighborhoods they should be banned from posting on FR forever.

Oh wait, we have Obamacare now. I guess the pit bull lovers on here will now point to that as a reason we shuold live with these unpredictable vicious terror beasts.

Lindsay Kunert said she didn't pursue a lawsuit because she hoped her neighbors would make good on promises to pay her for her lost wages. They didn't, she said.

Lindsay Kunert said a lot could have been done to prevent the second attack.

Like Kunert filing a lawsuit as she should have in response to the first incident. Pit bull owners should be sued until they give up these wild dogs, make it too expensive to own them. Civil penalty for any pit bull off its leash should be $20,000 first offense.

This dog should have been put down the first time.

My daughter was bit by a black lab... one of the gentlest dogs there is.... daughter was 5.... the dog was about 6 months old... still a pup. We were all right there, talking, while she sat on the ground petting the puppy. All of a sudden it lunged at her face and bit her. She got 14 stitches in her lips. She had a mark on her neck and one on her forehead, but not bad enough to need stitches. It was over in seconds.
We don’t know if the dog had a sore spot that she touched, or what....
the Dr. did a fantastic job... you cannot see scars at all unless she points them out.

My brother in Law kept the dog in quarentine, as the law instructed, for 10 days, then he put him down. He said he couldn’t take the chance that the dog would bite again. It was sad, but he did what he had to do.

This dog should not have had the chance to attack again. I shudder to think what damage he could have done to the little brother, had he gotten ahold of him.

Also the owner needs to be put down. Doesn’t give two sh1ts about what he’s allowed to happen to his neighbors that he’s directly responsible for.

2nd time?? Why would any parent allow a pit bull to live after biting your child in the face?? That dog should have been shot and killed on the spot.

A while back I wrote a positive article about a pit bull saving my BIL’s life.
As much as I hate to admit it,I do not allow my family over to their house for any reason.
The last two times while I was there, the dog[100lbs]kept lunging at me.I do not know if it was playing or not,but accepting the force of a dog that size was not easy.
Yes I had one hand on a handgun at the time but it could have turned ugly at any time.Me being the bad guy of course.
I love dogs, but I love my family more.
If anything were to happen to my immediate family over a “short”visit,It would mean a divorce for sure.I am not a totalitarian per se,but doing something like that is unforgivable.
I do feel sad that a once good breed of dog has been, more or less, ruined.
