My census form not counted?

Posted on 06/05/2010 2:42:20 PM PDT by Real mad

I filed my census form and sent it back fast. Why is a census worker at my door telling me I did not file. How can I prove I filed so they leave me alone?

Same thing happened to me. Sent in the form, then got a second form in the mail and threw it out (it said you could ignore it if you’d already sent the first one in), and then a census worker shows up at the door.

I’ve rec’d four calls from the census even though I already filed. I just hang up.

My suggestion: Don’t try to explain anything. Just slam the door in their face.

I didn’t send the second one in, since it did mention somewhere in the cover letter that you only need to submit it if you didn’t already submit the previous one. But I strongly suspect an attempt at double counting. This was at an NYC apartment that is a secondary/part-time residence for me, and in a neighborhood that is largely non-white and welfare-dependent. I really wonder if this double-mailing practice was prevalent in predominantly white (and Asian and Indian) suburbs where most people are self-sufficient.

Even if the double mailings were done everywhere, they’d still be much more likely to yield double counting in minority/welfare-heavy areas. When homes are occupied by various unrelated people, and many include illegal immigrants and/or people regularly engaged in criminal activity and/or people who are barely literate, threats of prosecution and in-person visit from government agents are likely to prompt recipients of such forms to fill them out (not necessarily accurately) and send them in, regardless of whether they know or suspect that someone else has already sent in a form for the same residence.

Ask them how many hours of “training” they’ve received vs. how many hours they’ve actually “worked”. Ask them how much they got paid to drive to those training sessions. Ask them how many times they’ve been let go and re-hired by this scam of an agency.

Then tell them to go back and find the form you sent in.

You had me worried for a moment. ;)

Same think happened to us. Claimed they did not receive. So, I repeated the answer to question 1 and sent him on his way.

ps fwiw - a dim bulb.

Why bother proving anything? There will be no repercussions and the enumerator will keep coming to your door and your phone whatever happens otherwise. It doesn’t matter whether or not you are counted. The final tally will reflect predetermined totals or ratios that will reflect the desires of the administration for more pleasing voting districts and more “appropriate” minority numbers and locations.

I’ve gotten a visit and follow-up calls too. The guy is very polite, and seems to be very diligent, but not too bright. The gist of my interaction with him has been to tell him that I already sent in the form, and correctly indicated that no one lived here who isn’t counted at another residence. I gave him my phone number per his request, and he went away apparently satisfied, but then called me because he hadn’t gotten my name, which he needed to indicate the source of the information. This was about a month ago, and yesterday I get another call from the same guy saying he also needs to know the other address at which I’m actually being counted. Fair enough — that’s info I’ve already provided on my main census form, for the residence where I’m counted, but I can see that they want some way of cross-checking. But he doesn’t seem to be able to organize what information he needs to get before setting out to get it, so he ends up being told later that it’s incomplete and has to go back for more. When he called me yesterday, I immediately started to give him the address, but he had to stop me while he went to get something to write with/on. I really feel sorry for him — he’s pleasant and clearly trying to do a good job, but he’s also clearly pretty much unemployable for anything else in this economy.

You can’t, they won’t believe you.

I talked to three different census employees before I gave up.

They are like hyper salesmen on commission. They just don’t want to hear what you have to say.

I finally just quit answering the door and the phone. I did not want to be double counted.

What?! You didn’t keep a photocopy?!
Also, you should be able to tell them the exact date and time you mailed.

They don’t need to double count anybody. This year it is a white house operation and they already have their numbers. The actual count is mere formality to convince us there is some relevance to it.

Several weeks after I mailed mine I came home to find a note that a census worker had left on my door wanting to schedule an appointment. Fortunately she had left a phone number for me to call. I left her a polite but FIRM voice mail message to never contact me again as I had already mailed my form in. I haven't heard back from her.

I stopped in a Dairy Queen while on the road one day. There were 3 census workers in there chewing the fat, talking about how they really need the job, and will be sorry when it’s over.

Only Obama can turn the census into a make-work job. I would be interested to know how much they spent on this census, and how that compares to prior censuses.

They have hired fired and rehired a million people to prop up the jobs numbers. They are going to knock on every door.

Obama wants to expand the census to a yearly thing to up his ‘saved or crated jobs numbers’

I have been in and out so many times I look like a porcupine.
