X Box 360 or Sony Playstation?
At home in NC | 11/23/2011 | killermosquito

My son spends more time at his friends than at home because of his love for video gaming. We would like to see more of him and wonder what freepers think. So lets have a Free Republic X Box versus Playstation smackdown. What are you suggestions?

Kinnect seems cool but I know that the Playstation has free online gaming. And I know Sony lost a ton of user data due to hacking. Freepers give the best tech advice so I'm anxious to have your opinions and suggestions.

All I know is that X-box has more graphically violent M-rated games than Playstation. I’d go with X-box, unless he’s under 14 and too young to get into that stuff.

I’d say PS3. More good game exclusives, slightly better graphics, blue-ray player and free online play. The Ps3 has a better record for not turning into a brick as well.

Tell him to stay home and deal with it.

Spend more time as a family, playing card games, or boggle, or scrabble, monopoly.

Gears of War is the best game series of all time, in my opinion, and it’s an XBox exclusive. The Halo series was XBox exclusive as well. I cannot think of a similarly impressive game or series that was PS3 exclusive. XBox Live, even though it is a pay service, is an awesome service for online gaming. I have both PS3 and XBox, and I do like the Blu-Ray player on the PS3, but for online gaming, the XBox is better, IMO.

As you have already indicated, video games are an avenue of social interaction for your child’s generation, which includes online/multiplayer games.

Although hard-core gamers may argue the finer points of graphics, franchises, exclusive content, etc. the fact remains that many game titles are chosen because of their ‘play against friends’ capability. For this reason, the X-Box is the way to go.

Long time PS2. I just have to get my thrills a little later than everyone else. Much cheaper though. I guess if it has wheels and a racing motor, I like to drive it.

We have 2 of each. Since the Sony break-in, we switched exclusively to XBOX. We opt to use a point system so our credit card info is not stored. By and large the games play the same, the PlayStation gives a slightly lighter touch than the XBox (Comparing Burnout Paradise on both platforms), and only slightly better rendering quality. The XBox is a lot more restrictive in terms of connectivity, and they or our ISP recently made changes in which it was impossible to sustain a connection to the games marketplace. However, we got free tech advice from Microsoft, changed some of our router settings (same settings worked perfectly before) and now everything is golden.

We all like going for long walks in the woods, forest preserves around Chicago area. Watching the squirrels, birds, deer, watching the seasons change. What is nice about walking a few hours a few times a week - nothing to do but talk to each other. No music, tv, games, entertainment etc, just each other. No competition, just togetherness. Bikes, tennis etc even though you are together you are really isolated in these activities, not really together with your children talking with them.

Deu 6:5 “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Deu 6:6 “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.

Deu 6:7 “You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

Deu 11:19 “You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.

I think I would choose the Reallife 100.

I only have the original XBox, not the 360. Can all three Gears be played on it or does one have to have the new XBox 360?

I have the same question for Halo.......FWIW, I've had the XBox since about 2007 and the only games I've played on it are Halo 1 and 2..........

It depends on what games his friends are playing, especially if they are online. We have both, the PS3 sits, XBOX is what they all play right now.

i prefer the xbox 360. among other reasons, i chose it because i didn’t care about blu-ray, and most of my friends have that system.
i’d suggest getting whichever one more of his friends have so he can swap games and play online with them.

I want the PS3 game Battle vs Chess.
Currently it cannot be sold in the U.S. - under litigation

I can purchase it on Amazon.de ( Amazon in Germany )

Will a PS3 game bought in Europe work in the USA ?

I know there are region codes for dvds.
Are there region codes for video games too?

thanks for any help

For games alone, the Xbox 360 is the best. It has by far more exclusives than the PS3 (in fact, once exclusive games like Final Fantasy and GTA have jumped ship to the Xbox), more games for the system, and comes with a three year warranty. The PlayStation 3 does play blu-rays, though you can always buy a blu-ray player separately. However, both systems are Netflix-enabled, so for a few dollars a month, you can stream HD video on either one.
