t’s not as if Newt couldn’t have known his past comments were going to eventually be called into question. He’s capably navigated his way through his big government tendencies so far and miraculously still has solid support in the Tea Party. Will the latest damaging clip have any impact? Gingrich is caught praising his favorite president of the 20th century: FDR. Yup, he picked the mother of all progressives ahead of Ronald Reagan.

But that’s not the worst thing – on the clip at the top of the page Glenn reads a story where Gingrich praised SEIU’s Andy Stern in one of his books.
In his book “Real Chance: From the World That Fails to the World That Works,” Gingrich praises the SEIU head, who remains a close adviser of the President Obama. Pitching the need for conservatives to respect organized labor, while simultaneously pushing back against some of Labor’s more cherished legislative goals, he wrote the following:
” Conservatives cannot cheer unions overseas and then be blindly anti-union here at home. There are legitimate historic reasons for workers to organize together, and there is a strong need for a healthy, competitive, union, movement that helps improve the lives of its members and the competitiveness of our country.

Frankly, that person is Newt. I would prefer, however, to have Blackjack Pershing. Or, Ronald Reagan's heir, Sarah, but she has said, "No."

NOTE: I absolutely hate the way this video is edited -- and the date it was uploaded suggests a political hit. If anyone has a complete video or transcript of this 2002 debate (with Ralph Nader, it appears) that provides some context for these remarks, I'd like to see it. That being said, Gingrich has an alarming history of praising progressive icons from Andrew Jackson to TR to Wilson to FDR that deserves, at the very least, a serious explanation from the Speaker. That's hardly an unreasonable request of our nominee in the most critical, decisive election in our country's history.

I cannot stand Beck anymore. He is a shock jock trying to discuss serious topics and comes across as hackneyed.
As if it matters to you...We have a choice between 4 people. Romney is a flip-flopping RINO...scratch him off the list. Ron Paul’s “conservatism” is a fraud and his record is a myth....he’s off the list. That leaves Santorum and Gingrich. I already listed many reasons why Newt’s “record” is not something I would support. That leaves the last man standing who has spoken to the issues that conservatives would question. Newt writes his own off as “mistakes” even though he was getting paid to promote them after leaving office.
Beck will become more aggressive towards Newt when he seem him blasting by Romney from here on.
I completely agree with you. When Beck started "preaching" instead of informing, I stopped listening to him.

The rapid growth of conservative viewpoints in the media in the last 25 years is a testament to the power and innovation of the conservative movement once power is taken out of the hands of the elite networks and put into the hands of consumers.

Congress has been rendered impotent by this President & his czars. With now have government by regulatory fiat.
If the GOP dosen’t take the WH, Congress really dosen’t matter.
Newt absolutely opposes “cap and trade” as well as any system of taxing carbon emissions. He testified before Congress against it in 2009 and led a grassroots effort while the Chairman of American Solutions to block its passage in the House and Senate.
Newt believes that cap and trade would kill hundreds of thousands of American jobs, cause electricity and fuel prices to skyrocket, and make America poorer. In contrast, Gingrich believes the best way to protect the environment is through markets, incentives, and entrepreneurs, who quite often are deploying innovative new technologies.
As for the question of whether industrial development has dramatically contributed to a warming of the atmosphere, Newt has noted there is no settled scientific conclusion. Many scientists believe it is the case. Others do not. But this unsettled scientific question has nothing to do with the best approach to protecting our environment, which is always markets, incentives, and entrepreneurs creating better and more efficient products and services.
The game plan is to beat obama. The rest are wimpy. Now answer the question. Who do you think is best to beat obama?
