Washington (CNN) -- The only original copy of the Magna Carta in private hands worldwide has a fancy new display case at the National Archives, where the document goes on display next month.

"This 700-year-old document looks better than ever," said David Ferriero, the archivist of the United States. He said Thursday that the handwritten, fragile parchment will be unveiled February 17.

The owner of the display copy was also at Thursday's preview. David Rubenstein, co-founder of the Carlyle Group investment company, said, "it is my privilege as an American to be able to give this back to the Archives and let them preserve it, as they have done, and to let them display it as they are going to do."

I thought this was kind of cool. Of course it took a private investor to do it.

Awesome! It didn’t say how long it would be there. I am due for a DC trip this spring.

One of the first documents that creates that dangerous thinking that the individual has rights. What this kind of dangerous thinking leads to are those wild Tea Party people claiming that Obama doesn’t have the right to ride roughshod over the rights of the people. Are the Democrat Socialists sure they want this on display?

What’s the big deal? The direction our Country is headed, it is only a matter of time until the Magna Carta, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are nothing more than rough grade toilet tissue!

Damn, I need to get out there to visit my son and his family to see it. One of my ancestors was a guarantor on behalf of king John and is mentioned in the document. He was John’s half-brother. I want to see the document that led to our Declaration and Constitution and has links to my family history.

Too bad our current, and several past Administrations act as if the Magna Charta —and our own Fundamental Laws are of interest only as dusty old outdated novelties—and work overtime to attempt to make our laws evolve away from God, and good government.
