A HEN produced a live chick in a freak birth at a poultry farm in central Sri Lanka, a veterinary surgeon says.
The vet in charge of the town of Welimada, PR Yapa, said the egg appeared to have incubated inside the hen for 21 days and the hen died when it gave birth to the chick.
"I had only heard about such aberrations, but I was able to see it for myself today," Dr Yapa told AFP.
He said the free-range farm owners alerted the local veterinary authorities after the highly unusual phenomenon and he performed a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
"There were lacerations and a tear of the reproductive tract that caused the death," Dr Yapa said. "The baby is doing well.
Mom probably died of fright after looking at her new “egg.”

If one subscribes to the theory of evolution, it follows that the mother of the first chicken was not a chicken. Ergo, the egg came first.
It’s rather obvious that the egg came before the chicken. The “chicken” can be traced back to about 600bc and we know that it was a cross between a red jungle fowl and a grey jungle fowl. There were plenty of creatures that laid eggs before someone domesticated jungle fowl.

The first chicken emerged from an egg, thus, the egg came first.
That chicken is a child molester. :^)
