Best Reubens In Los Angeles

The popular corned beef sandwich with swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing has a few different origin tales. Some say the reuben sandwich originated when the silent movie actress Anna Selos ordered a “combination” sandwich one late night in 1914 at Reuben’s Restaurant in New York. Others say it was the creation of Reuben Kulakofsky, a grocer from Omaha, Nebraska. Regardless, the reuben is one of the most revered sandwiches on any delicatessen menu. Everyone has a favorite and here are five of the top-rated Los Angeles restaurants to order this celebrated sandwich.

Best Rubens in L.A. is Billy’s Deli in Glendale on Central Ave. s/o 134 Fwy. If you venture there also try their pastrami on rye bread with pickles. Billy’s has been there forever and it’s the best deli in town IMHO.

My grandmother always claimed it was invented by an unknown hash slinger of bohemian ethnicity in a bowling alley in Omaha nebraska that she bowled at.

Billy’s is one of my favorite places in Glendale, and there are several; but I’ve got to give my vote to Brent’s.

Billy's......I grew up in Glendale (Chevy Chase Canyon) but really haven't been back since I saddled up for MCRD in 1966.

I'll bet Damon's is still around, since they moved over to Brand Blvd.

I’m looking forward to trying these. I haven’t found many good versions outside New York, and none anywhere as good as my grandmother made.

The best Reuben I ever had was at The Goose Hollow Inn in Portland OR, but that was in the mid ‘70’s.

Canter’s has great Reubens. The best ones were at the old Copper Kettle across from Warner Bros.

Yes Damon’s is still around and crowded as ever on weekends.
They still serve a good steak dinner. Semper Fi.
