WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL FREEPER ARTICAL/POST?

Posted on 05/13/2012 5:13:37 PM PDT by mamelukesabre

I can't figure it out. I was just looking at my previous articles and looking at the number of comments for each. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. The things I thought were amazing garnered pathetic comments quantities. The things I considered to be frivolous garnered popularity.

Click my name and look at my articles and subsequent comment numbers and tell me I'm wrong. If I'm wrong make me understand. Please.

Time of day is your friend! That seems to get more responses when there are more people posting. Post something late at night or during a time when not many people are on and you are pretty much dead in the water!

I'm a celibate. What do you expect me to say?

It is a nice sweater.

A hooker who trades sex acts for a cheeseburger will get you 1,500+ comments.

"If I'm wrong make me understand. Please."

I bet if you posted this at the end of ALL your articles you'd get a heap more responses......

(Also, asking this means you're most certainly NOT a Democrat).

I never checked my records, but I got a surprising amount of replies to a silly, but interesting, article I posted once “10 things you never knew about phone numbers”.

And so many people were wonderful when I asked for advice on my new kitties.

Kitties are doing well, only one has become a lovey dovey, the other is still very fearful, but ever so slowly she seems to be coming out of her shell.

And I have posted some stuff that I thought was IMPORTANT that didn’t get too much of a response.

I think timing matters to an extent.

Actually the quantity of replies is not necessarily indicative of the quality of the article. Often, the best articles posted here get little or no reply but that's not because nobody is reading it. I only reply to about one out of every 100 articles I read here.

Free Republic used to list the number of pageviews on each article but they don't do that anymore. Wish they did.

Just for information about threads with the most comments I'll direct you to the following link of the 3rd thread of The Hobbitt Hole threads. That thread filled the up to the maximum allowed comments on a thread at the time which was 65,542 comments. Yes that is correct 65,542.

The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads! (Congratulations, we filled it up!)

Link to all 36 of The Hobbit Hole threads..... Many of which were in the 1,000s of comments....

“Consider ID v Evolution: that used to be a big player round these parts.”

Oh no....don’t start that again! It’s like the French Revolution when those threads get started.

Yeah, I started one of them once too. The article was just sooooo interesting, I HAD to post it, even knowing what would happen.

Yes, it IS a nice sweater !

And I'd bet that an _I'm a celibate_ thread would be a bigger hit than this lame artical.

Actually, I'm tending in that direction these days as well, though the smart money will be on eventual recidivism.

Double post an article accidentally, then notice 30 minutes later the first post will have 15 replies and the second post beneath it will have 13.
