A woman celebrating the weekend before her 25th birthday was fatally shot Sunday when she hugged an off-duty police officer while dancing at a party, causing the officer’s service weapon to fire, according to police and her mother.

...

According to Stephens, the woman “embraced the officer from behind, causing the holstered weapon to accidently discharge.’’ The bullet punctured Miller’s lung and hit her heart, and she died at a hospital.

Not only do most of the ‘experts’ here on FR not even know what type of gun was involved in this incident, but they missed the BIGGEST CLUE to the shooting.

“said the veteran beat patrolman was hosting a party at his home and was dancing with his wife when Miller came up behind him and tugged at his waist.”

Never grab a guy (who’s carrying a gun) by the ass when he’s dancing with his WIFE.
SHE WILL SHOOT YOU.

The ‘cop’ was having a party, at his own house, and was DANCING WITH HIS WIFE when some strange woman came up and grabbed him by the ass.

I bet the wife’s fingerprints are on the trigger.

This story even make less sense since you linked tie story.

Actually, the other story at the link provides the answer.

The 'cop' was dancing with his wife when some strange woman came up and grabbed him from behind. Female jealousy is such a strong emotion.

There’s something else going on here, the DPD isn’t reporting it.

Yeah, like he was DANCING WITH HIS WIFE when a strange woman came up and grabbed him from behind.

Not too hard to figure out what happened next. Of course, I am sure he wiped his wife's fingerprints off the trigger before the EMT's and POLICE arrived.

My guess....a Glock, and a shoulder rig where the trigger was exposed.

Wrong, and wrong.

That’s one of the inconsistent stories being reported. Other accounts of events have him being hugged from the front (kinda difficult if dancing, IMO), around the knees (I’ll try to let your imagination fill in the details), etc.

There’s nothing that comes out of the black urban culture any more that shocks or astonishes me, and Detroit is a leading example of black urban culture and decay.

They’ve long since left civilization behind, and it wouldn’t be beyond the bounds of belief that a) the decedent was doing a bit more than “hugging” him and b) that his wife killed the decedent.

If you feel that way you should choose the Auto with 15.

If I don’t hit what I aim at with 6 there isn’t much use in spraying the neighborhood with 15.

The weapon, a department-issued, 40-caliber Smith & Wesson semiautomatic pistol, was in a holster worn inside the officer's waistband and was covered by his shirt, Goldpaugh said.

An inside-waistband holster, she hugs him from behind, and the bullet hits her in the chest. Something is not right here. We are not being told the real story.

I think it is pretty obvious that it would take an extraordinary sequence of events for the deceased to have been shot in the heart and lung from a waistband-carried rig if she were hugging the LEO from the front or the back, unless he was 7’ tall and she was a very short person.

With a waistband-holstered gun, the only scenario where I could see the bullet entering her chest is if she was on her knees giving him head at the time.

You have to hate it when a woman hugs you and your weapon discharges prematurely.

I was trying to say the exact same thing... in a less direct way. We’ve got all these people here on FR who get the fan-tods if one gets too direct about such things.

I always get a kick out of all the experts on threads like this. I generally never show up on these threads due to all the experts.

BTW, a cop hosting a party at his own home needs to be armed? While dancing with his own wife? This don't sound like a cop veteran to me, but more like some youngster with a heavy badge who just got out of the academy.
