If you leave your dog to die in your car, go right ahead. I got enough animal loving friends and relatives who will return the favor to you.

I have never happened up on a child in a locked car, that is a different subject all together. In that case I would call the cops and an ambulance at the same time while breaking the window myself.

I have never called the cops on a person who left their dog in the car but I have told a person if they were not back to their car in 5 minutes that was going to call the cops and I have done that about 4 different times.

The car/dog owner gets really pissed and cusses me out and I just laugh and tell them they have wasted 1 minute and only have 4 minutes left to get their business done. They usually get into their car and drive away while continuing to cuss me out. I continue to laugh! :D

Well I guess that’s a chance I’ll just have to take. If I see somebody in distress and I have the ability to do something about it, I will take action, fully cognizant that I may suffer consequences for “getting involved” in something “not my business.” I may not live as long but the nights I do live, I’ll sleep with a clean conscience.

Funny, you didn’t mention a dog AT ALL in that post.

It’s interesting in this discussion how the DOG in the early comments slowly but surely morphed into a “somebody”... lol

Standing up for human life is a whole ‘nuther thing.

Better to keep our animal companions at HOME.

Sound advice, especially in very hot weather.

In the case of seeing a dog locked in a car in hot weather, calling the police is the reasonable response. They sometimes have (otherwise illegal) tools that they can use to unlock the car door without breaking a window. In the case of a child/baby left inside a hot car, depending on the appearance of the child's condition (alert, crying or not moving) should the police response be slow, I would consider breaking a window because that could be a life-or-death situation - and I would expect to have to compensate the car owner for the broken window. Dogs are wonderful and should be treated in a responsible manner but when a human being is involved, especially a small child or baby, there is a huge difference between being a reflexive do-gooder that ignores property rights and simply trying to save a life at risk.

Thank you for weighing in, Senator Scott. :-)

(Seriously, that was a very thoughtful and well-worded response.)

This thread reminded me of this song. There's a precious part about a dog at the end too:

Blow 'Em Away

actually, i did ask my lawyer. shooting your mouth off about putting hollow points into someone’s head IS an indication of a predetermination to shoot. so your mind is made up to shoot before you get to the situation, therefore your judgement is suspect.

I’ll say it again. I’d post it on a sign in my yard! I WILL shoot to protect my life, safety and property, as allowed by and in accordance with Texas law.

Why else would I have a firearm? So I can THROW it? Duh.

In Texas law I have NO DUTY TO RETREAT. Texas law is also quite liberal in its definitions of what has to be happening, and what you must fear, to use deadly force.

I’m not going “hunting” for anyone, but YOU ARE ON NOTICE that if you threaten me I WILL act in accordance with my legal rights.

Saying I’ll use the law, as well as obey it, is so obviously NOT putting me in any jeopardy that it makes me wonder if you really did talk to your lawyer... or just pulled that nonsense out of your butt. I’m going with the latter unless you or your sockpuppet lawyer pony up some case law.

Or maybe you talked to a CONNECTICUT lawyer? ROFLMAO, you really ARE dumb. Texas law and Connecticut law are a MILLION miles apart on this issue!

Nope, just a fact that if you decide to “put a hollow point in my head”, you won’t make it to the trial.

Keep your tire iron to yourself and it won’t be a problem.

If you were to bring it on yourself, I’d hope your posse is smarter and less impulsive than you are. If they plan to survive their vigilante action, that is. If they have your genetics the odds seem decidedly not in their favor.

Oooh. Cue the ominous music.

So is this the guy in charge of your PETA eco-terror lynch mob? I guess you've got some pull with him, seeing as how he's your boyfriend and all. Pretty skerry dude.

you beg the question by calling the act of freeing the otherwise doomed creature a crime.

And you advocate for taking the law into one’s own hands like you never read what Jesus and Paul said on *that* subject.

Also you paraphrased rather than quoting Proverbs. Here’s what the verse actually says:

“Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.” (ESV)

HIS beast. Not his neighbor’s beast; that’s his neighbor’s business. Certainly not some unknown stranger’s beast.

It’s a bit of a theological stretch from regarding the life of your own beast, to taking it upon yourself as a busybody to make judgment calls about another’s beast — and damage his property to satisfy your own conscience.

While we’re exploring the topic, consider the thrust of that proverb: it’s referring to beasts of burden; basically, farm implements. The righteous man cares for what it his, because it is “right” (not just kind but efficient, and good stewardship) in every sense to do so. The foolish or wicked man squanders his resources without regard to what is right. There are many other proverbs on that topic.

Interestingly, this proverb verse is the ONLY place in the bible where “animal rights” are ever mentioned. Yes? Or do you have something else for me? GOD made animals for US, not the other way around.

Finally — in old and new testament times, people didn’t HAVE pets. Dogs themselves were considered vermin. What about that? HOw literal do you want to get in your biblical argument on this topic?
