The 8 Cheapest States for Retirees
Wall St Cheat Sheet ^ | September 26, 2013 | Kurtis Droge

With baby boomers getting ready to pack it in and head toward retirement, many people are wondering where they are going to want to spend their golden years. This is not only applicable to statisticians or government record keepers, but also to business owners, health care companies, nurses, and doctors.

While some are sure to head for the warmth of Southern weather, the coziness of the countryside, or the long sought-after home of their youth, many will be looking to their bank accounts rather than their hearts to determine a final place of residence. For those monetarily conscious retirees, here is a list of the eight best states to retire to, by the numbers, according to analysis from Kiplinger.

Well, I also counted 9 states, which is the reason I posted the picture.

:)

My main pet peeves with FL, the traffic, especially US19 and the section of I-75 between Land o Lakes and Brandon that’s seems to be under perpetual reconstruction, and I’ve yet to find a REAL NY style pizza or old-school Jewish style bagel anywhere here.

I just love paying 20 to 40 cents more per gallon here in New York than in the neighboring states. Sure glad I don’t have to after tomorrow. Be back in NH and glad of it.
But NY state sure is a beautiful place.

Yes it is we lived in Pt Jervis, just across the Delaware
Riv where gas is cheaper in PA. It is a nice area, but we just got tired of the cold winters and ever increasing by leaps and bounds prop taxes.

I thought the same! Gotta get this done here and now. Where to run? Puerto Rica? Aren’t they a colony, subject to Obama’s work as the mainland?

I dunno....Florida is pretty friendly for retirees.

Yeah, but it's full of New Yorkers and mosquitos.

And I'm not sure which is more annoying.

Another plus for Florida....no (state) estate tax.

Also, Florida is close to the islands in the Caribbean, where health clinics will likely be constructed to serve the healthcare needs of Americans fleeing the medical hell known as Obamacare.

Don’t bother.

We already have all the outsiders we need, here already.

The last strongholds of freedom lovers are evident without some expert telling us. It is not about numbers, it is about culture and values.

Open Spaces cement the love of freedom. A most intoxicating experience from which one never recovers.

I’m assuming DE made it because it’s the incorporating capital of the U.S.and those revenues offset residents’ tax burdena. Rehoboth DE would be a nice place to retire, if you could get away in Summertime when it gets mobbed with Washingtonians.

I can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would want to retire in Louisiana.

I think I know why Alaska is on the list. Friends who lived there told me that there is nothing to do during those long winters that doesn’t involve booze or sex.
