I’m sure this dog was friendly as can be too. Just like that Tiger was friendly to Roy until one day it snapped.
Pit Bulls have a hair trigger in them and it should be obvious by now.
Others do too.
Chet was right.
I thought the same thing when I saw his idea.
Super soaker it for sure.
Not doubting anyone on this. I know the breed and what they are capable up. Just talking about my neighbors pit.
Hair trigger indeed. Pit Bulls are terriers and all terriers have a super prey drive. Around the age of two it becomes obvious as to how the prey drive will deploy in each dog. Very strong owners can have influence over this process but never complete control. Pits are not a dog to be trusted around other animals or God forbid, small children. I believe that anyone who leaves a small child alone with a pit should go to jail.
Pit bull comes onto my property it will be a dead dog.
Pit bulls are the Muslims of the dog world.
Pit bulls are not really terriers. They are mostly bulldog. Bull terriers and such don’t really fit the true terrier mold except for the prey drive. Their drive really pales beside that of a true terrier that has not been bred for show. Nothing has a stronger drive than a Jack Russell. A Jack on a mission is truly a sight to behold.
Sounds reasonable to me.
One of the big problems IMO is that many urban shelters have primarily or only pit bulls or pit bull mixes available for adoption.
So many dogs are put down each year and so little is known about those surrendered for adoption that I would systematically remove them from the system, and make sure that only less dangerous dogs are available for families heading to the local shelter for an adoption.
Years back when my kids were teens, our next door neighbor had a couple of Shelties...yapping all the time...one bit the neighbor on the other side of their house in the stomach when she walked out the door...the kids had their dogs in the front yard without being ab le to control them...one time my son was getting out of his car and the dog ran at him, took him by surprise and he jumped on the hood of his car.....the next time when the dog came running at him, he dropped kicked it back onto the lawn. Doggie didn’t come after him again. Son was 6’2 well built and no one messed with him much...but glad they were not pit bulls or the neighbor that got bit would have been in big trouble.
Unbelievably ignorant comments from the lot against Pit Bull Terriers.
It’s PEOPLE, not the Pit. (I have opinions about both the dog owners’ and the parents’ culpability, but I’m referring specifically to breed-specific bias here).
I’m neither going to debate the ignorant nor defend my comment. To coin a phrase, “The truth is out there”.
(Fair notice: Using the statistics available tabulated for Pit Bull Terriers I could make some very, very Un-pc comments when comparing to national crime statistics by race. And there’s as much validity for that comparison as abortion being victimless...it’s the PEOPLE, people, not the Pit)
Not entirely just the breed, but somewhat.
An experiment in Denmark, they took actual, wild wolf pups and tried to raise them like domestic dogs.
At first, the pups were just like other pups. Playful and affectionate.
As they got older, though, their natural instincts emerged. While not constantly or overly aggressive, if they wanted something, they would not be denied... period!
They ended up being not “Wolves that were raised the right way...”, they were wolves, and could at any moment act just as you would expect a wolf in the wild to act.
All six of the participants ended up quite soon returning the animals to the zoo/shelter.
If the genetics are in the animal, it CANNOT be trained out of them.
>>Im neither going to debate the ignorant nor defend my comment.<<
IOW, your assertion, which flies in the face of all known empirical evidence, including the history of the PB, should be accepted because... why?
I have said the PB can be tamed, but not by the average person. And its capability of great harm is magnitudes beyond other breeds.
Super soak the dog with water in which you have marinated a tasty selection of bhut jolokia and trinidad scorpion peppers...more fun than ammonia.
>> Why would they allow them to be together? I own a pit bull and that dog is in my total control 24/7. The breed is what it is. An adult does need to be accountable. <<
“I leave my 2 YO child outside by the poolside but I watch her all the time. I never ever ever ever take my eyes off her for even the 10 seconds it would take for her to fall in and drown.
Never.”
>>If the genetics are in the animal, it CANNOT be trained out of them.<<
Never put facts in front of PB owners. They may attack you...
One thing—do not allow people to get homeowner’s liability insurance if they own large “bully” breeds. Let these morons self-insure, and I’d love for them to do heavy jail time, too.
