BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a pit bull has mauled a 5-year-old boy to death in Baker City.
District Attorney Matt Shirtcliff tells the Baker City Herald the attack happened Friday morning and remains under investigation. The boy was at a friend’s home when the dog attacked.

I have it on the best of authority that other breeds such as chihuahuas can be mistaken for pit bulls.
Let us do some research to make sure these are not some other breed before assigning them “Chet99” status...
But this is damn sad and preventable.
These kinds of threads are all to frequent.
Hardly a week goes by that we don’t see similar articles of a child or elderly adult being mauled to death by vicious dog attacks.
Poor Chet. He was right. Hope he opened some eyes.
You are right, but I'm curious as to you prescription to prevent these. I have a few ideas and observations.
I rode through Baker City on bicycle in 1976 riding the Bikecentennial Trail from Astoria to Williamsburg. At the time it was an idyllic town that seemed frozen in time...if I recall correctly, a town square where there was a bandstand and music on Friday nights, a busy, old-fashioned downtown area...the whole town turning out for high school football games. Wonder what it is like now?...but I guess pitbulls are everywhere.
Typical moron dog-owner’s comment when these things happen: “I just don’t understand it, Fido never did THIS before.” My retardo neighbors have two butt-ugly dogs that repeatedly chase me and my girlfriend when we get out of our car. I HATE ugly, snarling dogs and their retardo owners.

People need to understand that PBs are a different breed created to be hostile, violent and powerful.
They are cocked weapons that need special training, care and handling.
Already many home owner’s policies will not cover any harm done by PBs.
I am not sure Breed-specific laws are in order, but I do believe what I said — people who have kids and untrained PBs are negligent and create a dangerous environment.
I don’t have an answer other than a major scale knowledge and publicity blitz, like they did with smoking around kids.

If your nick didn’t include “Seattle” I would say the obvious: don’t get out of your car unless you are armed and then SHOOT THEM.
In your case, there are more um subtle ways to obviate animals who have um constant hunger...
Short of a handgun, try a Windex-type spray bottle with a 50-50 mix of ammonia and water. One whiff and they usually learn to stay away.
i hear, from many people, that it has nothing to do with the breed, just how they’re raised. i’m not buying it.
A chihuahua can go completely berzerkazoid on you and it might break the skin. It is the breed; the temperament can be influenced by the animal’s environment, but the fact remains that the inherent danger with a pit bull is how powerful their jaws and shoulders are.
Good idea, but I would recommend a super soaker be used.

Buy it. My neighbors have a beautiful pit. Friendly as can be. Comes to the dog park and has a great time.
It is the owners. Any dog can be turned in an a$$hole with bad owners.
You allow them to chase you? If you don’t want to engage the dogs or owner, call the police. If you don’t want to do that, then you have NO problem. I’d put a few unseen pails of antifreeze around BEFORE you make it known you’re having problems with them.

It is the breed.
No others have the inherent temperament and physical power of the PB — not even close.
It can be trained out of them but not by armatures.
