It's an older pic, but the message is still valid...

I absolutely loved Firefly from the first moment I saw it, and that was *after* the Serenity movie came out. We stumbled across "Serenity" because the movie we went to the theater to see was sold out.

Although there were the usual SciFi logic-leaps (never stated but presumed faster than light travel), I liked that FireFly *tried* to keep many aspects plausible (no aliens, all life forms encountered traced their origin back to old earth, still using gunpowder and lead for personal weapons, etc).

And it had a sort of Cowboys in space vibe. Best SciFi series I have ever seen and and absolutely mind-boggling that Fox cancelled it in the middle of the first season.

The writers wrote themselves into a box, and then phoned the rest in, re-hashing old ST:TOS plots. It was pathetic, and drove the franchise itself into the dirt.

Brisco was a Friday night favorite on its Fox run. The DVDs get pulled and watched some.

Yes, I liked Butcher’s books very much. The show was an interesting take on them. They never seem to get it quite right though.

The fact is these shows were cancelled because they did not have the advertisers and/or ratings to support them.

Even when shows come back on other networks it is usually at a lower budget (less cast, less special effects, less sets)

one example was the shoestrin of stargate universe. Their first season sets were all dark because they could not afford to build walls.

One thing that bothered me about Enterprise’s open if I remember right was during the open showing historical ships and the nuclear carrier not being in the montage.

For me I was a Hardcore firefly fan about 40 minutes into the first episode "The Train Job"

I was enjoying the show but I was confused because the previews had the "naked Girl in A Box" and apparently that wasn't in this episode so I thought maybe I had missed the first one.

But the dialog was witty the acting good and the writing was decent. Then this big thug guy is involved in the scene and the Captain tells him the deal is off and they will return the goods etc.

The big guy stands up and sez the standard bad guy speech "I will hunt you down and kill you with my bare hands etc." And I am cringing because this is about as cliche as you can get.

Then Captain Malcolm Reynolds wins me over forever cause he goes Well that's too bad and kicks the big thug into the engines and he is ground into a bloody mist.

I literally jumped off the couch and yelled YES, that is exactly what I would have done. I am not letting this jerk go so he can come back and kill me when I got him right here under my control!

I’d like to see a series set in the future about the certain global economic collapse that leftist policies will bring about. It’ll have it all—kooks with nukes, wierd science, gender-bending madness, hybrid monstrocities, jihadis gone wild—all set in an Escape from NY backdrop.

Sounds like a reality show with zero production costs. It's the nightly news!

Any list that puts “Firefly” at number one has lost me. Can’t stand Firefly fanatics. The show wasn’t bad, but the obsession of the fanatics has made me hate anything associated with it by now. Kind of like Ron Paul.

Actually, since they made the movie "Serenity" to tie up all loose ends, I think that's how all of the continuing storyline shows should be required to do. The television ending of "The X-Files" and "Lost" made me regret all the years I wasted watching them. They did make "X-Files" movies, but the last one completely dropped the imminent alien invasion angle.

They never do.

There is talk of them trying to get Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter International does as a series. Also, Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series.

Either of which could keep a TV series alive for at least 5-7 years with a built-in fan base.

Even if they don’t nail all the details, I’m ok with 80% and familiar plot arcs. ;-)

+1 One of the best lines from Firefly. My favorite is tied:

Commander Harken: I notice your ship’s called “Serenity”. You were stationed on Hera at the end of the war. Battle of Serenity Valley took place there, if I recall.

Captain Reynolds: [slightly sarcastic] You know, I believe you might be right.

Commander Harken: Independents suffered a pretty crushing defeat there. Some say that after Serenity, the Browncoats were through. That the war ended in that valley.

Captain Reynolds: Hmm.

Commander Harken: Seems odd you’d name your ship after a battle you were on the wrong side of.

Captain Reynolds: May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.
