Sochi officials say that the city's hotels are 97% complete on the eve of the Olympics.
But given the nightmare travel stories rolling in from reporters in Sochi, that 3% difference goes a long, long way.
There are reports of rooms without light bulbs or doorknobs. There are stories about unfinished hotels without lobbies or working elevators or running water. There are anecdotes from people who've checked into their rooms, only to find them occupied by stray dogs or construction workers napping in between shifts.
The venues and Olympic Village all look perfectly fine, and we haven't seen any complaints from athletes. But the hotels, specifically media hotels, aren't finished yet and it's a total mess.
The photos are ridiculous.
This hotel fitness center isn't in great shape:

Needless to say, there are no hotel bars:

Hotel staff is seemingly coming and going into people's rooms as they please

Interesting way that Yahoo and other “news” agencies have taken to cirumventing copyright issues when they want to use someone else’s photos and not pay for them. Just link to the photographer’s twitter feeds.

Make the gays who plan to protest useful by putting them to their natural work of redecorating. They’ll have those hotels looking like the Hilton in no time.
Sub Zero Equipment Assembly!! Bound to become a perrenial favorite with the “fans” should there BE any....
Hot puppies! I just scored Ebola. Eight more and I got the complete set!
So Mitt Romney was good for something. Making Olympics work. Which is one more thing than zer0 ever made work.

hmmm WIll Joey Biden be attending the games?
There are old hotels in the US still like that, with communal bathrooms.
Many in San Francisco.
This was common in the late 19th-early 20th century.
I was in Krasnaya Polyana two years ago for a conference. Gorky Gorod didn’t exist back then. They were just starting to lay out the foundations, etc. To build all this in two years is pretty good - especially when you consider that there was just a two lane road winding up the mountain. BTW, the scenery is impressive. They were building a high speed train that runs from the “coastal cluster” up the riverbed (and tunneled through several mountains) to reach Krasnaya Polyana.
Not saying that there is no blame to go around, but I think the media is nitpicking because of Russia’s opposition to homosexuals sodomizing it’s boys.
looks more like a successful Section 8 eviction
Ebola for WIndows Linux Or Mac?
Someone should check to make sure that those gold medals have real gold in them.
You get extra points for Dengue Fever.
I don't think this has anything to do with Russia's opposition to the homosexual agenda as it does with conditions that shouldn't exist if you throw $51 billion at a problem.
Substandard water, broken door handles, shotty workmanship, no hotel lobbies, etc. shouldn't be happening given the sheer amount of money spent to stage these Olympics.
Of course, you can be saying the same thing about the failed NYC school system's failures despite the billions of dollars thrown at that problem as well.
At least its not all poured concrete.
it looks like a teeming mass of Danger...
imagine a power outage affecting that hallway?
