After telling the congregation at the Miracle Faith World Outreach Church that he had been unfaithful to his wife, Bishop Bobby Davis died.

"After the service on Sunday the bishop's family asked us to remain in the church and the bishop confessed to us something that happened long ago," church elder Judy Stovall told the Connecticut Post. "He wanted to come clean with all of us. He wanted to ask our forgiveness."

Before he died, church members were screaming at Davis to show him their support.

"We were shouting, 'We forgive you, we love you,' but the stress of all of it -- he had a heart attack," Stovall said.

*bonk sound effect*
????

The timing...is unusual.
Heart attack?
Or something more sinister at work?
(Rolling pin?)

Idiot. What would cause him to do a stupid thing like that? It is incidents like this that make the Catholic confessional booth seem like a far better idea.

Oh, I hope so.

But a fatal heart attack is a bit much for public penance, no?

Rueters did a headline that had the Pastor dying because the congregation was yelling at him for infidelity after he confessed.

I have no idea what this man’s intentions are, hopefully they were good. But the person he mainly wronged was his wife. And his last act was to humiliate her in public. On some level, he was salving his own conscience at the expense of his wife.

There’s a point. Who else would have known but those whom he cheated with. The wife would probably not have wanted the gossip of a tell all. That does sound kind of low come to think of it.

The idea is to repudiate and forsake the sinning. The applause is for stopping it. It’s a Christian thang. Of course the revenge-wanting world is not okay with it.

Have you never heard of confession or asking for forgiveness? He only had to get right with the Lord. He decided to get right with his congregation as well.

Exactly right. The same thing Jimmy "I have bent over backwards" Swaggert did, the only difference is Swaggert did it on Television. I think that there is a special place in Hell for people that humiliate their spouse like that in public.

No he had to get right with his wife and family. If a child resulted from this affair (Jesse Jackson), he had to get right with that woman and child as well.

He's not a idiot. He did the right thing and it's far harder to stand in front of a whole congregation and admit your sin than to do it behind closed doors so no one else knows.

Private confession is the easy way out.

If his heart was that bad, something else would have got him anyway.

Besides, if God wanted him around, he would have lived.

Probably more people than anyone would suspect.

Stuff like that is hard to keep secret.

I wouldn't be surprised that there were suspicions and him coming clean is the right thing to do.

Perhaps he didn’t confess all.

What happened to persons in Acts when they fudged the truth before other Christians? Just a thought.

Publically embarrassing and humiliating his wife is the right thing to do?

The article said he confessed to his wife. The next step is to tender his resignation for "personal reasons", not make her look like a fool in front the rest of the community.

"We were shouting, 'We forgive you, we love you,"

They didn't say we love your sin, they said we love you.

I believe the Christian aphorism is "Love the sinner, but hate the sin."

Perhaps someone who is actually a Christian can verify this?
