Jack the Ripper unmasked
Mail Online ^ | 9/6/2014 | Russell Edwards

It is the greatest murder mystery of all time, a puzzle that has perplexed criminologists for more than a century and spawned books, films and myriad theories ranging from the plausible to the utterly bizarre.

But now, thanks to modern forensic science, The Mail on Sunday can exclusively reveal the true identity of Jack the Ripper, the serial killer responsible for at least five grisly murders in Whitechapel in East London during the autumn of 1888.

DNA evidence has now shown beyond reasonable doubt which one of six key suspects commonly cited in connection with the Ripper’s reign of terror was the actual killer – and we reveal his identity.

The chain of custody on the shawl means this wasn’t a particularly scientific study — not to mention the other factor, “oh look, six suspects from the time of the killing, DNA match to one of them, but also to tens of millions of other people alive today”. Reeks of sensationalist BS.

All that can be said is, in 1888 a hooker — who was later murdered, presumably by ‘Jack the Ripper’ — had perhaps been in the company of a Polish immigrant who likely was a john.

Was that based a book.

I have a book on my kindle that I think has that title. It’s very good.

Jack the Ripper wouldn’t have made much of a wave if he was operating today. We have much better killers today.

I’m a little skeptical. I was OK until they started talking about identifying kidney cells.

I don’t remember hearing him described as a hairdresser before.

Did they have them back then? I thought they would have been called barbers.

Modern re-interpretation? Seems likely - and barbers generally had lots of experience with sharp steel. That fellow with the shop on Fleet Street, for example.

Pretty interesting information on the extraction of material from the shawl for the DNA testing. The fact that they found a direct descendant of Catherine Eddowes, and a descendant of Kosminski’s sister for DNA samples is fascinating.

Funny how a few murders committed almost 130 year ago can still make the headlines.

Patricia Cornwall pinned on Sickert, didn’t she?

Aww, Everyone knows Tiddles the cat did it.

Tiddles belonged to woman lodger above Mary Anne Kelly, the 4th victim. Tiddles was left out during the night and came home, getting some of Kelly’s blood on her paws, and the scene.

Tiddles is probably the only person (or purrson) who knew at the time who Jack really was. They think Jack bumped into the cat that night.

Off topic - I took a Ripper walk when I was in London. Highly recommended.

Yes but lets hope there is no such thing as reincarnation because they might just find out who he is today, burr.

The Vorlons?

I thought "Red Jack" moved out from Earth to Rigel IV, committed grisly murders there, then continued on to Argelius II to attempt more of the same. Then he got caught, tranquillized and beamed into deep space (widest dispersal pattern).
