Uniformed DPS Trooper Asked to Leave Waffle House Because He Was Armed
Breitbart Texas ^ | 09/13/2014 | Bob Price

Posted on 09/13/2014 12:15:11 PM PDT by Rusty0604

A uniformed Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper was asked to leave a Waffle House restaurant in Grapevine this week because he was armed. The trooper was wearing a Texas DPS helicopter pilot “field uniform” that consists of a DPS polo shirt, tan slacks and his badge and gun were on his belt. Trooper was asked to leave and not to return because he was wearing a gun.

The reaction against the manager and Waffle House on Facebook was predictably angry that a uniformed police officer would be thrown out of a restaurant.

CBS DFW’s Bud Gillett reported that Waffle House said the manager simply missed seeing the badge on the trooper’s belt. They admitted it was inappropriate for him to chastise the trooper in front of other patrols. In a press release sent to CBS DFW, Waffle House spokesman Pat Warner said:

‪“It is Waffle House policy to allow police officers to bring weapons into our restaurants. In this incident, the manager did not initially see the officer’s badge and should have handled the issue with more discretion. We apologize...

Evans posted on Facebook that the real issue to him was how the manager handled the situation by embarrassing him in front of other customers in the Waffle House. “I could care less if the guy knew who I was or weather he recognized my uniform or not,” Evans explained, “it was the fact that he felt yelling at me from across the restaurant was an appropriate way of addressing his concerns.”

Workers at the Waffle House told CBS DFW it was just a misunderstanding. They said they support police officers and even offer a police discount.

Well thanks for that tip.

I personally find tattoos (especially on women) to be gross mutilation.

Just another reason not to go there.

Your elevator need not go all the way to the top to be a “Waffle House” manager. If that incident had happened in Palm Beach county Florida, other officers would have ground his face into the asphalt outside with 6 handguns and 4 shotguns pointed at him, if not shot anyway before hand, and the Waffle House manager would get a key to the city from the mayor.

Seriously, as a Yank, I know I’m in my beloved south when I see my first sighting of that yellow sign.

Well then come to North East Ohio they are about as common as White Castle (maybe More common).

It is great to be part of the South. Can I expect grits for breakfast and Moon Pies for desert.

Here in GA, Waffle House issues you a firearm if you arrive without one. I don’t know what’s going on there in TX.

Waffle House: We've been robbed, hurry, send the police.

911 operator: Waffle House? Sorry, we're busy.

Actually, I don't support exceptions for police that don't apply to the general public. Same rules for everyone, please.

I hope any other police officers that patronize that place find another place to go.

Same here. I’m sure the word has gotten out. Things like that spread through the grapevine.

If we had one of those places here I’d call and give them an ear full.

I’m the kind of guy that would have gotten up in support of him and made a very obvious scene of leaving with him,

Would you have gotten up an left in support of a civilian?

I love to see the Waffle sign - I didn't know they were as prevalent in the Midwest as they are in the south. Wherever they are, I know I'm still in my beloved America.
