Parents' House Seized Over Son's $40 In Drugs
The rare moments Christos Sourovelis can take a break from running his own painting business, he can be found toiling away on his family's dream house in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
"I'm a working guy. I work every day, six days a week, even seven if I have to," Sourovelis says. One day this past March, without warning, the government took his house away, even though he and his wife, Markella, have never been charged with a crime or accused of any wrongdoing...

Philadelphia freedom. But let's allow those Mexican drug gangs to swarm over the border non-stop, and let's arm them as well.

Maybe the US should try that with the parents/families of terrorists.

The nightmare began when police showed up at the house and arrested their 22-year-old son, Yianni, on drug charges —
$40 worth of heroin. Authorities say he was selling drugs out of the home. The Sourvelises say they had no knowledge of any involvement their son might have had with drugs.
A month-and-a-half later police came back — this time to seize their house,

Try that in the "Low Rent" district.
But of course that's not the kind of property they want.

Based on what I read there, according to the law there, if someone is caught dealing drugs in a regional mall, the state can confiscate the entire mall and never press charges against the owners.
Seems kinda, I dunno, old USSR...

Yet another reason to have no children in this sick society.Yet another reason for citizens to not roll over and show their belly every time the government decides something is for the best.
The family is fighting, not giving up, as you seem to be suggesting.

Are they trying to provoke a civil war, or will that be just another unintended consequence?

Really? That’s your takeaway from this story?
Do you care about the fact that the government can confiscate property from a third party, uninvolved in any crime, without due process? Or is that okay with you?

A month-and-a-half later police came backAh yes, those protectors of the people and stalwart defenders of the freedoms enshrined in the constitution came and stole at gunpoint the single largest asset that the hardworking family had. Thus showing that they're really not jackbooted government goons, but actually "on our side."
Just interpreting it the way the FR jackbootlickers do.

That seems to be their intention. Now they are shutting down websites that bash Islam, Pamela Gellers being the latest. Does this show up for you? She bashed the Muslim day parade in NYC and now her website is down. Gee what a surprise.

I'm not a Rand Paul fan, but he has been correct to speak out against these abuses.
How the police can take property without a conviction is beyond me.

How about confiscating businesses and real estate owners who employ and house illegals? To me they pose a hell of a lot more threat to the country that a kid selling $40 bucks worth of dope. Liberals always call illegals “Undocumented workers”. I like to call them “Undocumented terrorists and serial killers” How do they know they are workers? They aren’t checked out!
